Are you planning any walks to Af Kule KKOB? I've wanted to do it for a while now, but never been around when you've organised them in the past, & I'm nervous of doing the walk on my own in case I had an accident.
-
When do you fancy doing one ?
Any day in the next couple of weeks would be good if we set-off around 5pm.
Anyone else up for it ?
-
I'm not out for a couple of weeks yet & wouldn't be able to go before 9th. Hopefully not coming home until the last weekend of Sept
-
OK. I'll check what I've got to do in the next few days and then I'll fix a date for one while you're out here.
-
We'd love to come along too but don't arrive till 19th
-
Me and my wife would be up for it. Any chance of some more details as I am not the fittest person in the world but I am able to do a couple of hours of walking.
-
There's a description of the walk in The Fethiye Times
http://www.fethiyetimes.org.uk/cms/index.php?option=com_content&task=viewid=159itemid=84
The walk down from the top of the cliff is very steep and, subsequently, the walk back up is pretty hard work even for an old mountain goat like me. :D ;):D

How about Monday the 21st September ?
In order to get the best lighting conditions for those wishing to take photographs, we'll be meeting at the Af Kule turning on the road from Kaya Koyu to Gemiler Beach at 5.00pm. For those of you that are not familiar with this road, the turning is about 200 metres past the large "Sea Eagle" on the right-hand side of the road. Details of the walk are in the Outdoor section of The Fethiye Times, at http://www.fethiyetimes.com/ but we'll be cutting out the initial walk along the road.
You can copy and paste 36°34'29.67"N, 29° 3'15.71"E into the "Fly To" field of Google Earth for exact location of the meeting point.
All the dolmuses from Fethiye / Ovacik / Hisaronu to Kaya go to Gemiler Beach and will stop at this turn by request. There is plenty of parking space for those wishing to use their own transport.
I'm not arranging anything in regards to food at the end of the walk, as there are plenty of options available.
Please make sure that you bring at least half a litre of water for your own use, and wear sensible shoes as a large part of the pathway is strewn with loose stones.
In order to get an idea of the number of members likely to be taking part, please contact me through my profile.

That date's good for me. As there are several families on our complex areound that time, I'll see if there's any more that are interested
-
That sounds good to me. The more the merrier.
-
we are over on 19th sep,me and my lady friend, how far is it,we like a bit of walking.
-
The total distance is only about 4 kms, but as I said in an earlier post, the walk down and back up the cliff-path is not for the faint-hearted.
-
Thanks for the guided walk Alan. Really enjoyed it but as you say it is not for the faint hearted. Amazing scenery from the Monastery which is carved out of the cliff face. I certainly would not have done the complete walk alone. Your local knowledge also made it interesting.
Hope you are ok Liz, nice to have met you.
Good luck with the walking holidays idea Mehmet from the Yakamoz Hotel in Ovacik. There are so many lovely walks in the area.
I am looking forward to your Lycian Way walk on Friday. Meet you at the Montana Pine Hotel in Hisaronu at 3pm. :)
-
Anybody else who fancies about 3 hours walking along the Lycian Way is welcome to join us.
-
Alan - when is the next one after Friday - we are over Mon 28th for a week?
Ian
-
How about 4pm Friday 2nd October?
-
Alan - many thanks for the offer - we have booked to go to Marmaris (just because we have never been before and it is incredibly cheap for 2 nights - Weds & Thurs) from the Otogar.
We are coming back on Friday and should be back for 2pm so would be able to make 4pm - where would we meet up if we are coming on a dolmus from the Otogar or do we need to get a taxi?
If you think we are cutting it fine - we are happy to postpone until June next year when we come over for 5 months :)
Either way - many thanks - Ian
-
Do you want to do Saturday the 3rd instead?
-
Alan - fantastic - I didn't want to ask but that really would suit us.
I will pm you for details of where to meet.
Many thanks :)
-
The meeting time will 4pm ( You'll need to get the 3pm Fethiye to Kaya & Gemiler dolmus from behind the big mosque in Fethiye).
The joining instructions will be the same as those I posted in this thread on the 29th August.
But, ask the dolmus driver if he's going to Gemiler as one of the couples that were on the last walk got dropped well short because the driver wasn't going there.
If the dolmus isn't going to Gemiler, get off in Kaya at the Taxi rank and get a taxi down to the meeting point from there. The taxi rank is about 150 metres on the right past the first entrance to the Ghost Village.
-
Many thanks - see you on Saturday 3rd at 4pm

Have PM'd you Ian

Alan
Many thanks for the Af Kule walk last week, I thoroughly enjoyed it & the views were to die for. I'm sorry I couldn't make Friday's walk, but my neighbours all said how much they'd enjoyed that too. I'm now back in blighty, so will have to make do with the Kirklees way for now - not quite the same somehow!
Good to have met you too Daffodil & many thanks for the lift back to Hisaronu
-
Thoroughly enjoyed the Af Kule walk on Monday 21st Septemeber - thank you KKOB for arranging it, guiding it, and making it so interesting.
Much appreciated.

-
KKOB - just double checking everything for tomorrow and saw the comment on the previous thread: wear sensible shoes as a large part of the pathway is strewn with loose stones.
We were coming in strong sandals that we use for walking as we don't have proper walking shoes - do you think that is that going to be a major problem???
Sorry to leave it so late to mention but will be guided by you.
Ian
-
Yes, the walk is still on.
Strong walking sandals shouldn't be a problem.
-
Great - see you tomorrow at 4pm :)
-
Alan - many thanks for a wonderful afternoon - good company and something really different for me (a town lad who doesn't usually do countryside) - the views were fabulous.
When you next have your scooter serviced at Sanayi you are welcome to pop over for a cool drink when we are here for the summer from June 2010 onwards! :)

Thanks Ian, I'll look forward to it.
