A friend has bought an apartment from a non-Turkish owner and has been told by his solicitor that the tapu cannot be transfered directly to him, but has to first be registered in a Turkish citizens name. It's now 9 months since he paid for this property and he has not received his tapu, it is still in the name of a Turkish 'friend'. Is this procedure correct, or has he got problems.

He has got problems.

Thanks Mr Scunner, I thought he had, and told him to go and camp on his solicitors doorstep.

So does thia mean that a UK citizen can't sell their Turkish property directly to another UK resident ?

We sold our apartment to a UK resident over 3 years ago now,no problem.

Sold our villa to a UK resident 12 months ago and there were no problems. The clearance from Izmir took a while but that is normal.

We sold our apartment to a UK resident last month and all papers were fine. It ended falling through as the buyer and wife split up but there were no problems with the process.

Bala at European estates sold my other villa, finalised in January, 3 payments and all papers, tapu etc done at same time. She had been given power of attorney for the new English owners. Plenty of forigners sell direct to other foreigners

When he told me I thought it sounded suspicious, thanks for your replies.

The same thing happened to a friend of mine in Uzumlu. She acted on her lawyers advice and now has big problems. 3 years down the line still no Tapu and has paid so much out in legal fees.
