Title: Does Turkey do contempary?
Post by: jo b on June 23, 2005, 19:23:51 PM
We are buying an apartment in Karagozler, which we are coming out to furnish in a couple of weeks...
We have furnished our previous house in Ovacik so know that alot of what is on offer is a bit tacky!
We would love to do this apartment modern and contempary-white and chrome with splashes of colour.Anyone got any ideas where we can start? Need sofas-L shaped preferably and big colourful canvas pictures for the walls(too big for the suitcases)Chrome dining table and chairs.Hubbie says we'll end with wrought iron and silver spray paint!!

hi jo b
this must be a first tinx not being able to assist.lol
Anyway if you go to the migros and head in the direction of olu deniz out of town where the river is running down the street there are loads of modern contempory shops there or the street that runs parallel with it hope this helps.

Hi Jo B and welcome. There are some nice furniture shops in Fethiye so I'm sure you will find what you are looking for.

It is forum etiquette to introduce yourself in the member introduction forum first then we all know who you are. I'm sure that any questions that you may have will have an answer from someone on this site.

Take a look along the main Fethiye-Olu Deniz road through Tasyaker.

There are a number of big, newly opened furniture shops where contemporary is definitely the new thing. Some fantastic stuff, shame I bought what I had to when I had to lol

Its not easy buying furniture in Fethiye! It was about a hundred degrees for a start, and everything is so spread out-wished for a John Lewis many a time!! And Matalan for vases accessories etc!!

Bought sofas from Su on the Olu/ Fethiye road-quite pricey, but better quality and more stylish...hubby says I'm a nightmare-I just won't settle for tack!

Dining table and chairs (light wood with leather "effect" chairs) and trendy dark wood and leather bedroom set from Erdoganlar-past Tespo on the right on Kalkan/Antalya road.
Got fed up by then bought the rest from wardrobes, coffee tables etc from Rap...i."That will do" became the favourite phrase!!!

Went to Beko for electrical-hubby took hours to choose tv dvd and sound system-his turn to be a nightmare! But found it cheaper than when we bought similar a year ago-which is pretty amazing!

No luck with the canvas pictures though-I'll have to measure my biggest suitcase then buy accordingly!

Hi I also am having this problem.  I found Kelebek or Kalebek not sure of spelling and Istanbul Mobilia the best for modern furniture.  But stil not Ikea!  I am looking for chrome beds.  Next time i am going to Ankara.  Been told it is great for shopping.  We shall see.  The 2 shops i mentioned are not far from Migros.  Turn left at lights, both are next to each other.  Some of the shops have catalogues you can order from.
