Title: Buying a Scooter

Can someone please tell me if you need to have Turkish residency to be able to buy a scooter.

Kids here ride big scooters with engines.
But residency not req to buy an electric one.

May I add "at the moment" as there are plans to make electric scooters subject to the same rules and regulation as ordinary scooters.
But there again this is Turkey so it may never happen.... ;)

You do not need residency to buy a motor vehicle, but you do need a Kimlik, and as far asI know the only way to get your Kimlik is to get your residency, this was the system but someone may know better,

It used to be the case that you could get a Yabanci Kimlik Numarasi online just by having a Residence Permit. Is that still possible ?

Over 10 years I have owned 3scooters and have never been asked for my Kimlik or residency for sigorta.

Sorry, I asked a question, I have no idea what is necessary to own a bike. So "Mrs H" did not say you need it :)
However, we always thought you had to have resdency to buy a car in Turkey, is this no longe the case?

Post by: Lorraine on October 20, 2015, 16:16:56 PM: Bought a scooter in September. Yes you need residency. Had to go to notary with a translator, needed to show residence permit there, the garage selling the scooter (Kivrak / Honda), arranged this. You need residency to buy or to sell a scooter.
