...So, to sum up.....
« on: August 04, 2006, 15:19:51 PM »
Am I right in saying...
If you have a British SIM it will work.

If you have a Turkish SIM in a British (unregistered) phone it will work for a short while, before being locked.

If you have a Turkish SIM, British phone WITH RECIEPT and you manage to figure out where to get it registered, it will remain unlocked so long as it is used now and again.

Assuming the above is correct, my question is:
Is there anything you can do to bring back to life a phone that used to work with a Turkish SIM, but has now become locked?  If I buy another SIM will that work or is the phone permenantly un-Turkishable now ?  [:o)]

It is not the Sim that gets locked it is the phone itself via it's  IMEI number. :)

Nice try Glen- I'm with you, non the wiser!
It seems to me your 2nd option is the one- and I cant be arsed to mess around when we're only there for 2 weeks at a time. it would take too long to recoup the money we would spend buyin a turkish phone for the amount of use it would get. Will stick to my UK mobile and phone cards in September I think.

Hi Scunner,

It started off well and then fell apart!

Thanks tribalelder, that answers the question nicely.

so, to sum up (again):

If you have a British SIM in any phone it will work.

If you have a Turkish SIM in any phone it will work for a short while, before being locked.  It will not work in Turkey on a Turkish network again!

If you have a Turkish SIM in any phone WITH RECIEPT OF PURCHASE and you manage to figure out where to get it registered - then please pass the directions to the rest of us [:o)]

Glen.

Once a phone has been blocked, it cannot be unblocked, even if you send it back to the manufacturer.
The only way that it would be possible to unblock a phone would be to change the IMEI number, and that is totally illegal now.
I can only register phones that haven`t been blocked.
