I would also suggest to take your passport when you buy a Turkish sim card, having also just done it.  Unless they didn't trust me  LOL

Most Nokia phones that have been on Vodafone are usually unlocked alreadyif not I have the coding to unlock most Nokias.

I think they log details on computer like maybe a land line may require.  So that possibly is why they like to see the passport.
