another scam!!
« on: May 15, 2008, 08:19:15 AM »
just a warning as not everybody knows this..if you buy turkcell units to top up your phone as many people do. you build up a bank of free units that are accessed bye dailing *131 then hash button...you then can obtain the ammount of  free credits you have..the other day friends of ours who travel over here frequently went into a turkcell shop in fethiye to obtain credits the man in the shop fiddled about with their phone out of sight behind the counter, they became suspicious and asked what he was doing , he made excuses left the shop and returned a few minutes later and charged them 25 ytl for the counters he had got. they were convinced they had been fleeced but not sure how...when they told us we checked thier mobile and found the free credits they had ,had been used. my mrs went to the shop they had been to , read the guy the riot act and got thier money back

You don't necessarily have to use the free credits on your own phone. There's an option to transfer them to any other Turkcell number. I guess the bloke in the shop transferred to his or a mates phone.

With that sort of thing going on, it must be best to just buy a card and do it yourself.

You have missed the point here Pete....it has nothing to do with topping up your phone with a Kontur card.  This is a Reserve bank of Konturs that build up in your phone as you use it over a period of time. As Stuart has said you can then access these units via the phone. :)

To find out how many free Kontors you have accumulated dial *131# and press send.

You'll get a message on your screen which begins with the word Konbaranizda then a number. This is the number of free Kontors you have available.

You can claim these Kontors in multiples of 50 by sending a message to 2255. So, if for instance you want to claim 50 free Kontors just put 50 in a message and send it to 2255. As easy as that!

You'll get atext message confirming the Kontors have been credited to your phone.

To check how many Kontors you have dial *123# and press send.

This only works while in Turkey, you can't claim your free Kontors while using the roaming service.

Also, if you top up 100 kontors and then 250, you have 70 kontors saved up, if that is the case you can claim all 70. Alan
