Visa runs coming to an end?

Surely if they made the process of getting a residency visa easier then more people would do it.
Also if they gave the option of a 3 or 6 month tourist visa it would save people who come & go a few times a year queing up for their visa each time.

Also, it means that there is no way to achieve a residency permit, as you need to be here to do it, and you can't be here on a tourist visa if you intend to stay!

Splitting hairs ok, but true  :)

You can apply for residency through the Turkish Embassy before you arrive in Turkey. See top of page of the link Stoop posted.

Biggest waste of time and money and this visa thing is a scam to fund the consulates new years eve party.
Getting residence is so simple.

Come here on a tourist visa
exchange 300 USD (or other currency aslong as it isnt zambezi kwacha) for every month you plan to stay resident (3600 USD for 12 months) but make sure you change this at a bank and they have your name on the receipt and it is stamped by the bank.
5 passport photos
download the application form and fill it in and print it off in colour. Make sure the 2nd page of the form is printed on the back of the first page you printed.
Write a dilekci (petition) which can be done at the police center or nearby.
take your goodself and the passport you used to enter the country with to the security center. go to the yabanci subesi of the emniyet muduru. dont go to the local cozzers as this process takes much longer. go to the one in the capitol of your province.
The process takes 3-5 working days here in Istanbul but can be longer in other provinces.

They could have a bigger party if they put the cost of a visa up.

Residency cost increases virtually every year, when was the tourist visa last increased, it's been £10 as long as I can remember.

I noticed something else on Stoop's link that will affect anyone overstaying their visa date. I believe that if you over stay you have to stay out of the country for the requisite number of days, then apply to the Turkish Embassy for your new visa, at a cost of £74.
