A couple of years ago I was talking to a Turkish chap who kept bee hives in the forests overlooking Marmaris Bay. He complained of bears frequently wrecking his hives. I was surprised at this and he said that the authorities denied the existence of bears in the hills but he insisted that he knew a bear raid when he saw one - and see them he did.

I heard a similar story to this on the Bozburun peninsula near Turunc and I remember the agitation of villagers in Orhaniye after the sighting of a big cat in the mountains, (about ten years ago).
