Turkish Price Rises
« on: February 09, 2010, 21:10:38 PM »
I'm enquiring on behalf of my dad about price increases in Turkey.

He read in the Independent on Sunday that the Post Office have done a survey, and while the exchange rate is still pretty good, there's been a 40% increase in prices in Turkey compared to 2009. They apparently made the point that although the Euro is still strong against the Pound prices in Spain fell by 30%, cutting the Spain/Turkey differential.

Can anyone living out in Calis confirm whether prices there seem to have gone up so much.

You may be interested in this thread on the same subject although not sure is it'll answer your dads question.

In direct answer to your question.

Prices have gone up overall in Turkey, petrol, electricity, meat, alcohol so it is inevitable that there will be some increases in prices in bars and restaurants and on the Dolmus.

It is of course all relative.

I believe that even with the poor exchange rate eating and drinking out every night on holiday is still a very good deal and relatively cheap.

From the topic regarding the craft stalls being closed down...

Above is the fate that lies ahead for anyone who want to increase their Efes price by 20p lol

Efes wholesale price has gone up BUT I bet the bars in Çalis will still be selling it for 2tl...

No profit fro them in that - its called a loss leader I think!

Even at say 4 or 5tl a bottle how does that compare to a bottle of beer in the UK?

Most places are so surrounded by direct competition that I think you'll find that greed doesn't have a chance to come into it. Not making a loss as their buying prices constantly increase should explain any bar and menu price increases you may have noticed.
