Boat VHF Radio
« on: March 21, 2010, 22:24:23 PM »
Hi
We are being told it is now a legal requirement that a VHF radio is required before being able to take trips now.

Does anyone know if one was bought from UK or ebay (via USA) it is able to be registered in Turkey for use?

Alternatively does anyone have one for sale?

Thanks for replies.

K

Don't know about the legality but would have thought from the safety aspect it was common sense. :)

Haven't heard that it's a legal raquirement but agree with tribalelder that anyony who ventures out without a VHF is foolish.

Careful about buying from USA - they have different channel allocations to elsewhere in the world. Suggest you buy from UK or Turkey.

If your boat has a UK flag the boat will need a radio licence (Now free and available on the internet) and you will also need an Operator's Licence which involves a short course and exam.

Pretty sure that "Kapitan" will know about this and be able to answer the question.

If your boat is Turkish registered, you will need to register the radio.  You then pay an annual licence fee.  This year my fee was 50tl.  If you import from the U.K., I would imagine that you would need customs papers.
The website is www.kiyiemniyeti.gov.tr  There is an english version of the web page.
Hope this helps.

if your boat is registered in uk you should have a transit log and you will have to get it added to that by the local customs. they will probably want to know where it came from.

Hi

Many thanks all for the replies.  The boat is Turkish owned and registered. I'll take a peek at the link.

Thank you

You can take a VHF radio course and receive a certificate that is recognised world wide. I can give you an address in the UK of where I took my course. I took mine in Hull. This certificate is recognised in Turkey.
