Does anybody know if you need to have residency to register a UK phone?

Not as far as I know.  Our neighbours (who do not have residency) registered their phones earlier this week.  They just had to show their passports.  They said it cost them 5TL each.

not sure if you mean for mobile turkish Pasha, uk mobile will work anywhere in the world, but costs a fortune. if you have an old mobile you can have it unlocked and register it with your passport and they will give you a new number and you,re up and running.if you mean landline phone you need residency or have it in a friends name(turkish). ;)

Thanks for the replies, I registered a phone last year but had residency. I have an unlocked iphone being brought over next week.

I have been told that you can now only register one phone every two years so I will get the person that brings it over to register it.

I went to the Turkcell shop and was told that you do not need residency to register the phone, but you can only authorise 1 sim card to be used in it.
If you have residency you can authorise up to 5 sim cards.  ;)

Help needed please re mobile phone registration - is it only possible to do this at a Turkish airport on the way into the country, or is it possible to do the registration at a Turkcell shop? Thank you.

I had my mobi unlocked in the U.K. We bought a Turkish sim card and it worked for about 5 weeks. Our phone now says Unregistered Sim. Do I have to have my mobi unlocked here?
Thanks in anticipation.

scouser2 .. you need to have both the phone AND the sim card registered at a Turkcell shop ... not just un locked.
