Cold Snap - Wrap up warm
« on: January 19, 2012, 07:14:29 AM »
Check out this link for todays weather - http://www.wunderground.com/global/stations/17292.html?bannertypeclick=infoboxtr

Down to minus 15 by lunch time with wind chill.
We already had a burst solar panel yesterday and now trying to get hold of antifreeze to stick in it. Pipes already frozen solid so will have to release some pressure as it warms when the sun hits the panels.
All neighbors panels froze and leaked yesterday too.

Anti freeze available in Kipa at the moment, end of one of the ailse near the crisps??

If your pipes are frozen the damage has already been done, it will only show when they thaw.

A quite balmy +9.5 here in Fethiye at the moment.

Just noticed the area on your forecast is Mugla, which is way up in the mountains, try a forecast for Fethiye.

I can't see minus 15 on that link.... must have been updated since you posted

I love the bit that says todays temperature will be almost the same as yesterday.  Very scientific!

Scroll right down hourly forecast there - revised to -13c now.
Draining the panels again too which are looking ok at the moment. I;m lucky mine are on a flat roof with easy access unlike where with other peeps they are actually on the roof itself.

PS i'm in Kemer which is always 10 degrees colder than Fethiye anway plus wind chill from all the snow up the mountains

Or if you go to Freemeteo you can get an even more localised forecast.

I've got this for Kemer (where I think you are too Screamlead). It seems to be pretty accurate so far.

For the benefit of those who do not know; for a 4 bed villa with central heating (14 radiators), you ONLY need 1 litre of antifreeze. For solar panels (2 large), you ONLY need 1 litre of antifreeze. Unless you have a leak, there is no need to top this up. I suggest that both are drained and flushed if possible, every 5 years or so. I trust this helps. 8)

We put antifreeze in our panels every autumn.

On this forecast site there are 16 Kemer's listed, go down to the Mugla one and there are no minus temperatures on it.

That's what I did! I signed up for their daily forecast by email too. It seems pretty accurate and the most localised I've managed to find.
