Help with sourcing washers for UK Charity
« on: October 15, 2015, 09:39:04 AM »
Our friends are over for holiday, and one of the things they do is to source a kilo of different washers from Arkwrights (YapaPark opp. Babafirins) for use by a charity in the UK, where they are very expensive to buy.  Unfortunately, Arkwrights no longer hold the sizes needed, and we tried a few other places Homeprof; Teczens and tried a couple of places in the Sani (spelling still incorrect), with no success

So does anyone else know where we might obtain M3 and M5 steel washers?  Thanks.

What do they consider expensive?  You can pick up M5x25 for round about four quid per hundred in the UK.

May be some use this is our supplier for fasteners  https://www.orbitalfasteners.co.uk/en/categories/form-a-mild-steel-zinc-plated-washers
M3 washers £2.04 per 1000 inc vat
M5 washers £2.50 per 1000 inc vat
think a lot cheaper than Arkwrights  ?

Looks a good result, thanks Steve.

John some of the prices in the UK are nutty, here you can get half a kilo for under £4 or at least used to.

Fe fe fe fetch a a cloth Granville!

I'm intrigued - what does a charity need a load of washers for?

Perhaps it's a laundry service.

The Charity is Bag Books which provides multi-sensory books and storytelling for people with severe or profound and multiple learning disabilities. The stories are told through voice and emotion rather than words and pictures.  The washers are used to make some parts of the 'equipment' that makes up the multi-sensory books.  Please have a look at the Bag Book website for more information http://www.bagbooks.org/.  It is a great little charity.
