Another suicide bombing

Suicide bomber in Bursa close to the central mosque - looks like only person killed was the actual bomber themselves, but at least ten folks injured.

I've been expecting more attacks but Bursa surprised me. Wouldn't have listed that as a target city.

Surprised me also, but maybe that's why they targeted it.  Who knows.

The US just sent out another warning yesterday about "Credible threats to Tourist Sites" - Bursa's not on the main tourist trail but a lot of foreigners do go to Bursa for the architecture etc.

As a Dutch I had no idea about any warning lol. I'll do a quick google.

Edit: nothing new on foreign affairs website. Last change was made on March 29,  when the Dutch consulate in Istanbul had been closed for a few days after receiving a threat.

They state increased risk for whole of Turkey, no travel near Syrian border and only necessary travel in most of South East.

There's an article in today's Hurriet along with a picture of the Dutch Prime Minister.

I found the one about our Foreign minister but the remarks about no "safety guarantees" are related to freedom of speech, especially about Erdogan.

I've just seen some camera footage of the explosion and it's a miracle that nobody else died. It was quite a blast!

The reason that nobody died is that apparently the suicide bomber tripped and fell causing the bomb to go off too early.

Today two bombs have exploded along a road in Soma. It's quite common for bombs to be hidden in the roads in the south east but Soma is part of Manisa and lies in the west.
First bomb exploded when normal traffic was passing. Second bomb exploded when jandarma came on the scene to investigate. One soldier got slightly injured.

It's about 600 kilometres, and to drive about 7-8 hours. It's a lot nearer to Istanbul than Fethiye.
