May Day
« on: May 01, 2016, 12:22:15 PM »
So far it all looks reasonably quiet, although usual Polis reaction to those trying to access Taksim - tear gas, water cannon and violence.  Arrest still only in double figures.

When I'm in the 'Bul I now stay in Mecidiyeköy, next to the site of the old Galatasaray stadium.   This was just round the corner earlier...

(truth be told, I just wanted to test embedding iFrame video  ;))

Spoke too soon.

Man killed by Polis water cannon blast in Tarlabaşı (next to Taksim).

Shameful.

Presidential style democracy.  Yesterday the President took more powers off the Prime Minister, and next week he will be

chairing his sixth cabinet meeting, a job that was always chaired by the Prime Minister. ( richard + spud + boat =  ?? )    ;)

Unfortunately there was the attack this morning on the police station in Gaziantep. One car bomb exploded and two men used machine guns.
Two police officers have died (so far) and 23 people injured (4 civilians).

Because of May 1st the area in front the had been partitioned off so the car couldn't get too close.
