« on: March 26, 2018, 12:16:21 PM »
Just read in the "other place" that vodafone are removing Turkey (from May I think) as part of their europe calls package.
I'm relieved I only bought a pay as you go sim as not even had a chance to use yet!!   >:( >:(

Nothing I can find saying this. Might just be a rumour.

Just tweeted Vodafone as having Turkey as part of the package was the reason I went with them.

If they drop it from their 'Roam Free' package, then that's a significant contract change in my eyes!

I'll post any reply here.

Strangely if you use thier look up facility to check if the changes on the 10th of May affect Turkey it says it will remain free.....
My daughter uses them so I'll ask her to check this out with them today.

I just received two of the £1 a day payg sims. I was going to use them this summer but I guess Wi-Fi calls and Skype will have to suffice.

In a chat session with Vodafone support as I write. They have confirmed that Turkey is being removed from Roam-Free so I am trying to get them to answer why customers cannot cancel their contracts on the basis of a significant change in service...

From a FB post on this

I just received this text from Vodafone
Hello. From April 2018 your plan will increase by 3.6% - in line with UK inflation (measured using the Retail Price Index, March 2018 ). For example, a £30 plan will go up by £1.08 a month. This change reflects your terms and conditions and will be added from your April bill - go to www.vodafone.co.uk/rpi for info. Also, on 10 May 2018 we're adding 45 countries to Roam-further, including Albania, Bosnia and Turkey (currently in Roam-free). Based on your previous usage, these roaming changes mean you can end your agreement without penalty. We really hope you'll stay, but to discuss leaving please call 03333042612 by 6 May 2018. Rest assured, if you go abroad you'll receive a text with all the charges. Visit www.vodafone.co.uk/travelling to find out more.

Stoop, Vodafone support were clueless about the text and the penalty-free cancellation of contract - typically.

Working it out, to continue using my (and Sian's) phone as we have been will cost around £500 per year in roaming charges - about the same as one of our phone yearly contract!

Found the following on the OfCom website:

'Changes to Terms and Conditions Phone and broadband providers can change the terms of a contract so long as they provide a month's notice. However, if you believe the change will cause you material detriment, your provider should consider this and, if they agree, allow you to end the contract without penalty.'

I certainly regard £500 as 'material detriment'!

I would advise anyone affected to raise an issue with OfCom.
