Bear in mind that any Residency renewal or application can only be extended or granted for the life of your UK Passport minus 6 months. Therefore, if you have a passport that expires in 1 year, your residency can only be granted for 6 months.

Not quite correct. You can have residence up to the expiry date of your passport.

This came from experience. Last month we took a customer to renew and also enquire about getting Citizenship. They managed to renew for 1 year and only had 14 months to run on their passport. Consequently they were told they could only have a 6 month because of the validity of their passport.

We process dozens of residencies PER DAY. Maybe around 50 to 70 per week. I know for fact that it goes right to the expiry date from this.

I know you need the permit to get a phone line and if you plan to get a work permit but what else do you need it for?
