Cheap phone calls to Turkey
« on: March 11, 2006, 12:58:35 PM »
I don't know how much BT charge to ring Turkey but I have just bought a Tesco VOIP internet phone and the rates are 9p per minute.

The interesting thing is that if the person in Turkey (or anywhwere)has broadband and uses a Tesco VOIP phone the calls are free!

They have them on at £30 for two at our tesco with £5 free calls per phone and a free number - so that people can ring you (Skype charge £20 per year).

Basically you can ring many countries for 2p per min and mobiles for 10p per min.

Might be worth a look for the ex -pats who want to talk for free.

ps - BT Together price = 24p per min

I have a VOIP phone, (cost from Ebay, £3-21 + £7 p&p) which works with  Skype, X-pro, Stana Phone, SJ phone, MSN, YAHOO Messenger, Net-2-phone, Eyebeam, Firefly, etc.
The phone allows you to make unlimited worldwide computer to computer calls for free. This means you can phone any country for as long as you wish across the world at no cost (apart from your internet fees)
You can also use Skype to phone a landline and you are charged the cost of a local call of the country you are calling.
I use mine to call England and am charged less than 1p per minute.

Cheers Dave,

Skype is Ok apart from the £20 per year for the phone number (if you want one). Also calls TO Turkey from the UK are 12.8p per minute compared to 9p per minute through Tesco. You also get £5.00 of calling credit with the Tesco phone and do not have to pay P&P - so it runs out pretty cheap when you add it up.

Yes you can talk to anyone who has a VOIP phone for nothing - just as you can with the Tesco phone.

Both systems are excellent for ringing numbers abroad and are a useful addition to your home phone.

The other thing about the Tesco phone is that it is a working hand unit and not a 'dummy' like a lot of the cheap voip phones you can buy on ebay. I got one of those for £6.00 and it was basically a microphone and speaker in a plastic case - it went back.

Stoop - if I bought 2 Tesco phones then took one over to Turkey, could my husband's family then use it at the internet cafe to call/receive calls from us for free? The owners of the cafe would allow them to link it up I am sure.

Thanks Janet

I think he's bragging that he has a 21" screen. I have a 19" & it's 2 inches too long for me.

It`s the length of the links you put up that make your posts so wide.
