Cost of mobile phone and computer
« on: March 20, 2006, 10:59:47 AM »
We are hoping to move out to Fethiye in the next few months.
I need a new computer and also a mobile phone. Can anyone advise if it is better to wait until I come to Fethiye or buy them here and bring them with me.

Thanks for your help,
Cathy :)

Computers ...similar to UK. Laptops usually more expensive.  Mobile phones  Siemans A70...89 YTL  Motorola L6....340YTL  Nokia6230i...517 YTL  Samsung D600...678 YTL. These prices taken from Migros catalogue, so you may be able to do better. Hope this helps. :)

I would buy in the UK then go get a Turkish sim card and register your phone at the same time (make sure you have a receipt for the phone)

As for a computer you can buy a desktop for around 499 YTL from dogus electric - suitable for basic needs.  Or buy a laptop in the UK a good site for discounted new and refurbished machines is www.itcsales.co.uk.

I`ve just built myself a new desktop, it cost approx £134, i already had a monitor, all parts bought here in Turkey.
I did have an english keyboard bought over though, because even with TipEx i couldn`t change the Turkish one to English.

PS, Linda193, Whoever changed a Turkish laptop keyboard into an English one, must be some hell of a technician.

Very glad Cathy asked that question. I have a Virgin Mobile, which I'd like to keep, so the info re new sim card is useful to me too. I also planned to buy a laptop in the UK and bring it out when we move, but what about import duty? Anybody know if this would apply.Ok so it's not strictly a 'reply' to the topic but it is related. Any info welcome thanks - Glo

Just bring it out as hand luggage....no one seems concerned at Dalaman. :)
