Not sure if it's true but my agent has warned not to take any mobile that is 'locked' If anyone has a Nokia that they would wish to use with a Turkish SIM, try this site

I would never get a phone unlocked via the net.
I would splash out £5 to get it unlocked in our local shop.

We have a local shop in the UK that will unlock your phone for £5. There
is also a shop in Fethiye that will unlock your phone for the same price plus issuing you with a Turkish sim. I think it cost us £14 for the lot with 100 credits. Its near the fish market, am almost sure its called Star something, sorry can't remember properly!

Val
As 100 credits cost 11.5 YTL.
20.5 ytl seems a bit expensive compared to £5 to have your phone unlocked.

I think the extra is for a new Turkish sim card.

I'm so glad this topic has come up again, I was getting realy confused as to the situation. We have a nokia which we use with an Aria sim when we're over. We last used it in October.
Will we need to go and get it unlocked when we next go over?
Will the sim be useless?( it has remained activer over the last 2 winters even though there's been no activity on it)
I would really appreciate some advice
Thanks

I'm also a bit confused Cayfan. Wasn't there a thread on here a while ago about unlocked UK mobiles not functioning with Turk sim cards after a certain date ? Or maybe I wasn't paying attention at the time ?

There are two separate issues here. If your sim has been locked because of non use you can usually reactivate it by adding more credits, the phone shop will do this for you. Might not work if you have not used it for two years though, only way is to try it when you are here.  If you have to start again with a new sim(number) it won't cost a fortune.
The second is that all unregistered phones were to be locked but to the best of my knowlwedge they have not implemented  this yet. You can bet they will at some stage though. :)
