Clarification of Fundraising Charities
« on: October 16, 2009, 17:01:38 PM »
Just to clarify the position regarding official charity organisations in the Fethiye/Calis area, the Chairman of Calis Carnival Committee (Pete 8)) spoke to both Mustafa Sikman (Honorary British Consulate in Fethiye) and Dilek Dincer, Manager of Fetav, today.

FETAV runs and administers an ‘umbrella' foundation under which Fethiye International Group (FIG) and The Calis Carnival legally operate. The board of this foundation includes the mayor of Fethiye and the area governor (Kaymakam).  We are advised that FETAV are only recognising two charities in the area.  These are, FIG (Fethiye International Group) and Calis Carnival. Both of these charities have undergone rigorous scrutiny and are registered with the Associations Manager at Fethiye Belediye and named members of these charities are legally able to collect  money in sealed/padlocked collecting boxes/buckets, as well as holding fundraising events.

Because of the number of smaller fundraising groups who have been operating and fundraising for really great causes (but unfortunately illegally :( ), the Belediye now require them to come under the umberella of either FIG or Calis Carnival with FIG or Calis Carnival acting as the "parent company" and being responsible for the smaller charities.

Both "Embrace", who hold weekly coffee mornings in Calis to raise money for children (this year concentrating on children with sight problems - and are doing a really great job) and the four members of the group regularly raising money for the dogs home at Uzumlu, have elected to act under the umberella of Calis Carnival.

"Embrace" and the four dog's home fundraisers will have their own bank accounts, overseen and audited by FETAV and the Belediye accountant, but they are required to have their own independant treasurer who will provide a regular set of accounts.  They will be able to choose where their money is spent and Calis Carnival Committee will not be involved in this selection.  Saying that, the Calis Carnival Committee is currently working on a joint project with "Embrace" to assist a new pre-school Creche in Gunlukbasi (details to follow).

The Carnival Committee will meet with FETAV, Embrace and the Dogs Home fundraisers next week to see how things will operate on the ground.

We look forward to a good working relationship with these charities who are now under our umberella and we are pleased that we are all working "hand in hand" for the good of Calis and the surrounding area  :).
