Title: Road to Faralya from OLu Deniz
Post by: GordonA on May 18, 2014, 21:42:02 PM
Has anyone driven, or been driven from Olu Deniz to Faralya recently ?? When we lived in Fethiye, we always intended to go to Faralya, but were advised against it due to the dangerous road. Has it been improved, or is it still advisable to give it a miss ?

It's not the greatest road in the world but it's OK, just take it reasonably slowly or go by dolmuş.

I never thought it was too bad to be honest - and I'm a big woos when it comes to sheer drops.

Gordon its a pretty decent road, but to get the real benefit of the views then a dolmuş is a better option.

I'm the worlds worst passenger but we braved it 4 weeks ago and it's nowhere near as bad as I imagined.

All the time we lived there I wanted to go, each time we planned to go there was news that someone had died, a car going over a cliff.  I would have continue to go, but not Gordon.......BOOoooooo.
Now we don't live there he wants to go exploring, give me strength!!!

It's a great road now compared to how it used to be. Plenty of room for 2 vehicles to pass. Well worth a drive up there for the views. There are some fantastic views over Oludeniz and you can also look right down into Butterfly Valley and across the valley towards Faralya, Kabak and Alinca. On a clear day, you can see Rhodes.

It's also worth a detour to Kirme as the road keeps going up and you eventually reach the low-launch area behind Babadag that the paragliders use for bad weather and winter.

We went and it confirmed to me that officially I am a wuss and I don't mind saying it. The views are truly awesome but the fear of seeing something coming the other way when going up, as you are on the outside, was immense.

Well looks like we will be hiring a car, Gordon believes everything KKOB writes ;-)

I believe in The Holy Bible as well, Darling, but you won't see me volunteering for 6 inch nails through my hands any day soon !!

That's the trouble with you Gordy, you've got no sense of adventure.  ;)

A perfectly acceptable road if you don't mind hairpin bends !!!!
We've walked Oludeniz to Faralya many times - a steady uphill stroll   :)
The walk from Kabak back to Faralya is also magnificent  ;D

We usually go for 3 months at a time, this time 2 weeks, I suppose if I started Gordon walking when we get there I could always help him the rest of the way in September or October ;-)

Everything was going swimmingly, nearly talked him into the car hire and then you mentioned hairpin bends!!! we are talking here about a man that thinks driving fast is 35mph.  Gordon the Sunday driver every day of the week.

I drove there in a hire car on Day 2 of first driving in Turkey in January this year. My husband bullied me into it.

I had just about gotten used to using my right hand to change gear and there I was teetering on some cliff edge with a local driver bombing round the bend at me.

You have to drive to Kabak just to find somewhere to turn round and drive back .......

However, the views really are magnificent and well worth risking death for.

I actually feel safer going up or down on foot than I do being driven!

I prefer going by scooter than car, that way you can stay away from the long drop to the ocean   :)

is it on FB on a particular group or page, not that I am morbid, but I would just like to know whereabouts it happened. I've had to shut my eyes many times on the Dolmus
