What about the Devlet hospital in Calis, they should be fairly unbiased.
Failing that, if you don't want to go to another local hospital, I have heard that the university hospital in Izmir is very good.

Why are you needing the op?

If that question is too personal ...ignore it

back ops can be risky. go to izmir/ankara or istanbul. if you need a major op.

hi heather07..had mri scan at esnafe, they found 3 discs come out and pressing against my nerve, they advised i should have operation to remove the discs and fit titanium screws to fuse the vertibrae..seems a bit extreem to me ,so going with scan to mugla and ask them what they think, will let you know what they say

That does sound extreme Terrie.  Have you tried manipulation?
The reason I ask is I have back pain and have been advise by Physio that back operation is a last resort and not to let anyone near my neck which is where my problem lies. Definately get a second  or even third opinion but make sure that it is the only thing you can do

I think if you have doubts you need to look at it a bit more.
Here is a couple of sites I found about spinal operations. There are plenty more on the internet.

well.had my appointment at mugla(DIDNT TELL THE CONSULTANT WHAT THE ESNAFE HAD SAID)he studied the MRI scan, examined me,and said 'you have three discs out, intense physiotherapy would be the best help to start with...no operation i said? no,its nowhere bad enough for an op!yet anyway.Beginning to wonder about the esnafe doctors(are they in it for they money?)anyway i'm much happier today!alway get second opinion if not sure yourself!simon

That is great news Terrie.
Operations on the back should not be taken lightly and definately not without having the pros and con spelt out to you.

Physio is ok but try to get an osteopath

Glad it went ok.  They have physio at the Devlet hospital (some is being arranged for me soon.)
It will be a lot cheaper than the Esnaf and hopefully, will do the trick.

Hi all..just an update about my back.Had to see consultant at letoon hospital, before they would speak about physio(no osteopaths here in turkey!)
He recommended i speak to ibrahim (a male nurse),in A and E at the hospital, anyway to get to the point,he has a traction bed(table)at his appartment.sorted price direct with him.
1st visit...massage,relaxation injection, traction,he had to get a friend there as his english is not too good..hurt quite a lot.but no pain no gain as they say...
2nd visit..a couple of days later..massage,injection,traction stretched 10cm !!then...pop!what was that i thought, that was your disc going back into place, and it was.
After one more day,pain free,went back 3rd time for massage,and light traction,now wearing belt/corset for bit of support,no pain,standing straight,brilliant
anyone needing help phone ibrahim olpak 05466530202 ,  Simon,

Must admit I don't rate the Esnaf.  Had a fall early in the Summer, splitting my knee open and having both internal and external stitches (it was right down to the patella apparently).  Although they gave me a local anaesthetic jab, straight in the wound, they didn't wait for it to take effect and started stitching straight away.  Would rather have given birth then that.
Went back about 5/6 weeks later to ask if it was healing properly as a large lump had appeared on the knee.  They insisted that I needed another MRI scan and x-rays (at a cost, of course).  I declined and visited my old GP when back in the UK.  He told me it was just plain old scar tissue and would heal/go down.  No problem.
Surely any doctor here could have told me that without me having to pay through the nose for more expensive machines to 'look' at it.
Seems to me, talking to various people who have been treated for broken bones etc that the Esnaf is very fond of using pins

Hi Terrie
I've been having problems with my back and have already had injections at the Letoon. Was given lots of tablets but they made me really ill. Last time I spoke with them and said I wasn't taking any more tablets they mentioned perhaps exercise and physio would help. Can you give me any idea about the costs involved and if you know whether the man you saw is still at Letoon?
Many thanks Karen

Simon have you spoke with Stef (wife is Pat)  he had a slipped disk operated on last summer and was up and around in a week or so he said that the Turkish consultant who operated on him was excellent

I know what your going through mate after having spine surgery my self in October last year here in the Uk, i put up with Sciatica for years until 2 disks finally prolapsed

Over the years i tried everything i found Acupuncture gave me the longest relief of pain but when the disks finally gave way i had no choice but to have a emergency operation as i could not even stand

good luck Shaun

had two operations on my spine so far.1 in the uk the benefits of this  lasted almost 4 years and one at Letoon hosp which lasted all of 6 months!!!!!Been attending the University Hospital in Antalya since Nov last year and very dissappointed. Was scheduled for another operation and in hosp 3 days when surgeon changed his mind and administered 2 cortizone injections into my spine......cost?2000tl!!!!!!!Have 'control' appointment tomorrow when I will be informing him that there has quite a difference to the pain I am suffering-yes,it has worsened.I dont have any choice but to use the Turkish hospitals as have no permanent address in the UK but am now losing all the confidence I did have in their treatment.Good luck with your treatment.

It was the four day hospital stay, all the preparations for the 'operation',visits by the neurosurgeon and medication given by the hospital.Plus the cortizone injections.Still a heck of a price.Think they saw me coming.
