Post by: charlste on October 04, 2012, 19:25:15 PM
What is the law regarding crash helmets when hiring a scooter.I wear one every time obviously for the safety aspect, but i get told conflicting reports. Is it illegal to ride a bike without one?

The question wasn't "Is the law on wearing helmets applied in Turkey?".

in all of Turkey it is law to wear a crash helmet but for some reason Fethiye turns a blind eye to most laws even seatbelts, use of mobile whilst driving, unless they need a cash injection from fines then everyone wears a helmet for that day.If anyone is unsure on any laws regarding driving and the highway code it is the same as the UK and Europe. :o

I also find it strange that Fethiye doesn't adhere to the rules of the road.

I have a holiday home in Fethiye and also own a scooter my travel insurance offers no medical cover unless you have a motorcycle licence and you and your passenger wear safety helmets

I also believe that if you drive a scooter in turkey that is driven on a uk licence you can only drive what it says on the licence.ie on mine it is a 50cc limit.I have hired a 175cc before and was told if i had an accident i would not be covered by my insurance.

And the same applies in the UK if you use a foreign licence.
