Just seen that due to The Scottish referendum and the "possibility" of a yes vote that the pound is dropping... Is it affecting exchange rates in Turkey?
-
The exchange rate is down to 3.49 from 3.63 but I don't know for what reason.
I'm reading that it's neck and neck in the Scottish referendum.

Hi. Nichola....that is why..No one ever thought that there was ever going to be anything other than a yes vote... The. Pound is down against all currencies.... On the bright side good for those wanting their money out if Turkey...

Wrong Mercury everyone thought there would be a No vote. That has been the view and the results of all the poles up to the last couple of weeks. The latest pole is a great surprise to a lot of people, however it is just one pole.

Those Poles seem to be everywhere!

Most financial sources are suggesting that the results of recent Scottish referendum polls are affecting the value of the GBP - this, coupled with the poor performance of the EUR are giving the impression that the TL is strengthening, when in reality it isn't. When viewed against other major currencies (such as USD) the TL is about the same.
The effect of a "Yes" vote on sterling could be interesting...

Sorry meant to say no Jaqcui..

The £ is down against other currencies across the world. The drop against the $ is 1% and this is reflected, if not directly matched, by falls against other currencies. If this happens when there is the slightest hint, in one poll, of a "Yes" vote for Scotland leaving the UK, I wonder if this a mere ripple in comparison with the giant wave that would be generated by a hint that the rUK maybe would vote "Yes" to leave the EU.
I'm going spend my £s while they still have value - off to Turkey in a couple of days!
-
Colwyn - I don't think this is based on the results of one poll.
The Yes campaign appears to have gained a sense of momentum over the past few weeks and look to have captured the votes of many immigrants. Bearing in mind that many of these immigrants are from central European (and ex Commonwealth) countries, the term "independence" is not new to them - unfortunately I suspect many will vote Yes without knowing the full ramifications of their vote.
A useful, and potentially more accurate, indicator is that of the bookies. The odds for a Yes vote have been tumbling over the past couple of weeks and I've yet to see firms like Bet365, Willy Hills etc post a loss...

Bloody Poles. Coming over here and taking our poles.

Maybe John F, but in that ubiquitous expression of those who don't have a damned clue what they are talking about, "Time will tell". At least it won't be a very long time now.
-
Well the £ has bounced back against the TL to where it was on Friday before the independence poll. However, this seems to be more about the weakness of TL than the strength of the £. The £ is up only slightly against $ and € whereas the TL is down 0.8/0.9% against the three currencies. Business as usual.

Bugger.

I just report the news; I don't make it. No cause for abusing a fellow member.

I tripped over a puppy in the animal shelter yesterday ;D

Tried to put smilies on but they didn't materialize.. Sorry Colwyn.
-
Don't fret. I understood your meaning without the help of smilies. I never use them myself, preferring a possible ambiguity in a post as part of the humour. Of course, you may have done the same yourself and, if so, you will have had me "hoist on my own petard" - to use an interesting late Medieval phrase.
-
So, without Googling it, can you explain "hoist on my own petard"? ;)
(Actually, it's "hoist by my own petard" and a petard isn't a flag or pennant.)
-
And hoist isn't being put on a hoist. You a military engineer KKOB?
-
Nope. ;)
