Title: First time this end of Calis... Help & Idea's appreciated :)
Post by: JulieDiane on February 18, 2016, 21:22:13 PM
Hi Everyone,

Having visited Calis almost every year for the last 15 or 16 years & have stayed mainly at the Oykun, Delta or a friends house, we are staying this coming June at Blue Green apartments with our daughter, partner & will be then 10 month old granddaughter. I have been reading some posts with interest in Koca Calis, I have to say we have never really been any further than surfers beach cafe, i am looking forward to exploring slightly further afield, a couple of questions, having only been that end during the day is there any lightning along the road/track to find some of the restaurants at night heading away from Calis?  Where would you recommend for some nights out? Also is there a local shop we can purchase water, milk, bread etc at night as we probably will not arrive untill 10pm at night, i had tried contacting the apartments but they never replied as we also need to hire a cot. We hope to hire bikes too, one with a baby seat so we can go exploring, so many questions running through my head due to having such a little one with us, but mightily excited at coming back to Calis this June  :)

Can't help with the Koca Calis info I'm afraid but there is a bike hire place on Baris Manco - do you know where that is?

Not sure a out the lighting but am sure someone who like rd that way will let you know.  Can recommend Zentara and Meekan restaurants. Don't think there is a shop that end, would get the driver to stop in the little street just past the Seril, where there a couple of market shops.

The Blue Green apartments are located directly behind the Sunset Beach Club so not that far from the main Calis promenade (about half a mile). There are two roads that connect the apartments to the promenade and both have lighting.
There are always a couple of bike hire places on the prom in the Summer season

Take a look at Kiddies Cargo Ovacek for baby hire equipment. Reasonable prices, clean good equipment and they will deliver for your arrival

Thanks so far, i know the bike shop, up by where PJ's used to be   ;) Although never stayed that end we're aware of where the apartment are were just not familiar with whats available really that end, and have never ventured further than surfers beach cafe to be honest, always intended to just never got round to it. Thanks for the hire shop info, i think will be very useful i'll see if i can find them to sort some things out, I like the idea of heading past surf cafe at night to try different places, just not sure i fancy struggling with a pushchair in the dark which is why i was wondering about lighting.

Can't wait to get back to Calis, we'll obviously visit some of our familiar haunts too, roll on June  8)

Meant to add there are several Bars and Restaurants on the seafront after the Surf Cafe (sorry can't remember the names, but they tend to change from season to season anyway), most of them have entertaiment on selected nights and offer free sunbeds umberellas etc during the day.

The road past the Surf Cafe heading West (away from Calis) is fairly new but I don't think there is much lighting yet (not last year anyway).
As Philrose says, there are plenty of restaurants on the beach along there but they don't all open in the evening -especially out of core season.

Also, there is a restaurant and shop on Sunset Beach Club that can be used by non residents but you have to enter from the beach end of the site - just walk down the side of the complex from BlueGreen.

I did think sunset would probably be ok with us using their shop, i'm sure i've spotted it on the front when we've walked past, do you happen to know how late its open until? Thanks

It depends how busy the complex is - if the bar is open, the shop is!

There are also a couple of shops not far away heading into Calis - in the road that runs behind Guvens - they are also usually open quite late.

Sorry,  just saw this. We stayed a couple of times at Diana Residence and also Odyssey  Residence, which is virtually next door to Blue Green. Diana R has some basic food items for sale and there is likely to be someone there to sell you stuff. Other than that (and Sunset Beach shop), there's two or three small supermarkets near the Dost Beach Hotel which are open quite late. It's a 5 minute walk. Although not really busy, the road leading to there is quite dark. I used to carry a cheap little led strip torch or keep my phone display on and point it at the cars when walking down when it was dark. That's probably overkill,  but better safe than sorry.

It looks like hotels along that road were being developed last year so maybe they will put some street lighting at some point.

The alternative is if the dolmuses are still running, they go past the BG entrance - a one minute ride.

We had a friend staying at the BG and used the pool there some days. It's very pleasant and was pretty quiet and relaxing. As an aside,  I thought the bar at BG was a bit pricey, foe example charging 9 for an efes last year (6 at Diana for comparison).

Also we did the Turkish night at the Dost Beach Hotel last year -  the buffet and price was superb (I don't get into the entertainment so much but we escaped as it was starting.)  I think they charged 25tl a head last year. Loads of really nice freshly cooked Turkish dishes.

The friendliest place around there is indeed Guven's -  just a bit further on from the Dost Beach on the beach. They really look after you and one of the prime spots for the sunsets.

We really liked it up there.  It's quieter and away from the hustle and bustle. If you want to go to the prom or Boris Marco,  it's either pence on the dolmus,  or almost as cheap for 3-4 in a taxi.

Also, there is a new bike hire shop nearby. In fact if you walk into Calis from Blue green - it will be the very first shop you will pass. Its on the road behind Guvens, next to the fruit & veg shop.

Bikes are TL15 per day, but you can negotiate a better rate for number of days and bikes. Our friends rented 4 for 2 days - TL12.5 per day. They are open quite late by the way - 10pm last night.

Well it's not really Koca Calis (although technically it is) - it's sort of half way between Calis and the main area of Koca Calis.

We ride past these apartments on our way back from Calis and to be honest there's not a lot there as far as I can tell. It's hotels and apartments with the nearest restaurants (other than the hotels) being back towards Calis or the other way towards Koca Calis Beach area.

You won't be far from the Koca Calis eateries -such as - The Surf Cafe, Zentara Beach, Koca Calis Mangal and one or two others. Then heading back towards Calis there is Guven's and one or two more in that area.

Enjoy  :)

Thanks both, handy to know about the bike rental as i would have gone up to the one by the old PJ's otherwise! I suspected as much regarding shops as we too have never noticed much other than the hotels/apartments when walking or bussing it back into Calis, but then we never needed one so never really looked! Looking forward to exploring past Surf cafe as never ventured further really, apart from a couple of years ago we walked along the beach front to the escape bar/cafe. Really looking forward to our break & warm sunshine  :)
