An odd email received from Expats of Turkey
« on: February 11, 2010, 07:07:51 AM »
I received an email this morning from "Expats of Turkey" whoever they are.   The email seems to have been address to a lot of people.  It told me
 " Dear Alexa,
You have received a new private message at Expats Of Turkey from Moderator Team, entitled "Important message from the forum administration!".

It then went on to tell me:

A virus alert was noticed on your computer.
We highly recommend you to check your computer and perform online virus check at our site immediately: at *******************************
If you do not pass this test* we will have to delete your account and forward a complaint to your Internet provider

Then it gave me good wishes from Expats of Turkey.com.

I have not replied to this email, and I have not visited  their website,  but I suspect they have got my email address from CBF., as I do not know how they would know my interest in Turkey.    It maybe a virus, so I am just warning everyone.

I can guarantee they didn't get your email address from CBF. I'd ignore it, it's a tinpot site with about 6 posting members. Probably their latest desperate attempt to try and get noticed.

If you click the link it will attempt to load a virus on to your computer! Don't know where it came from but just delete it.

I got the same email today even though I haven't looked at their site in months maybe even a year.  I deleted it.

Before people start putting 2 and 2 together...

The fact that so many people who got a virus email from that forum are members of CBF isn't because the email addresses were obtained from CBF. They may not recall joining the offending forum, but they might just remember joining it under it's previous odd name, "My Turkish Love". You must remember, the website that was going to make CBF "history, within 3 months" - that was five years ago :D

All CBF member details are safe and we don't divulge them to ANYONE.
