At about four o clock this afternoon Sue and I became the proud grandparents of our 3rd grandchild and 1st granddaughter 8) Jessica Kirkpatrick weighed in at 7lbs 3oz 8) They are both so well that they are actually back home tonight. Our Ian and Helena now have one of each  8)

Thanks Keith. I too find it hard to believe that they're home. Helena delivered around 16:00 and we visited about half seven. You'd never had guessed that she'd spent 2 hours "pushing" a few hours earlier. Sign of the times I think. They've closed a big local maternity unit recently and the ones remaining are bursting at the seams. Her waters broke just after midnight last night.  They got to hospital around 08:00, were sent home at 09:30, were back at 13:30 and birthed at 16:00.

Congratulations Kenkay.  Hope they are all well.  
Working in a hospital, I can imagine the pressures on beds is horrendous.  They also like to keep staff costs down at weekends.  
On the plus side, hopefully with support at home,  she will recuperate better and there is less chance of both contracting an infection.

Lovely, congratulation to the Kirkpatrick family. Home is best for family. Women have been giving birth for ever without being tied to a bed or kept in hospital for a week. I had my second at home after experiencing being in hospital give me home any day if the week x
