The journey
« on: June 23, 2012, 11:20:43 AM »
Many years ago, as a young man, I set off on a journey with someone I had known since I was 5 years old, but had lost touch with over the years, and only then had become reacquainted with.

We did not know how long the journey would last or where it would take us but we both set off with hope in our hearts.

Over the years there have been many happy (and some sad) milestones and, as with every journey, the route has proved not to be straightforward and has had many twists and turns along the way.

And the path has been rough and difficult in places, almost always due to my own weakness and frailties but never once has my companion faltered and on every occasion has picked me up, dusted me down and gentle lead through the next part of the journey.

Whenever I fell ill during the journey the exact same thing happened. I was gently nursed back to health and put back on the road   .

Then a short time ago the journey came to a shuddering halt and my friend and I found ourselves in a very dark tunnel from which there seemed to be no exit. But once again, my fellow companion put a reassuring arm around me and together we have moved forward, inch by inch, along the road once again.

Our journey started on June 23 1973 and today Brenda and I celebrate our 39th wedding anniversary.

Those of you who have meet Brenda will know how beautiful she is on the outside. I have to tell you that she is even more beautiful on the inside.  A truly, truly remarkable woman.

So happy anniversary my darling - I love you more than I can ever say and always will.

A very happy anniversary from us too - we might rib John on here but it is well meant and more importantly well taken - it is nice to see him calling the lovely Brenda "a remarkable woman" - which she is - but she is also married to a remarkable man. If there were more John & Brendas in the World we'd all be better off.
