No Need to Register?
« on: December 02, 2013, 18:30:47 PM »
So after dropping my phone down the loo on Friday night*  : :) I had to accept it had gone to Silicon Heaven and get a new one.
Obviously a contract was out of the question as we're shipping out in six months so I gritted my teeth and handed over my hard-earned pennies (and the rest) directly to the Apple store.

The bonus is that as my new phone isn't locked to any network I can insert any SIM I like and change if I want to....and I understand that includes overseas. In which case....am I right in thinking I won't need to register the phone? Presumably I can just get a SIM and do PAYG on Turkcell or whoever?

*Excessive alcohol consumption may or may not have been involved.

Unfortunately, you will still need to register it.

We have been trying to register 2 new phones since August without any success despite following all the instructions.  The story has changed every time we've gone to the shops...from computers down to the latest - which is that foreigners are not allowed to register phones bought outside Turkey any longer.  Apparently only a Turkish person who has been out of the country in the previous 4 weeks can register, they must show their passport with the valid entry visa.  Totally and utterly bored and fed up with it all!!

A Turkish person wouldn't have a 'valid entry visa' on their passport would they ?

If you haven't already, try the  big Turkcell shop near the PTT - its back door is opposite Bim.  I find them quite good in there and a couple of them speak English.

Good luck!!

What they are saying Alan is that even a Turkish person has to have been out of Turkey before they can register and they must have a stamp on their passports as proof.  Phil has been to the Maliye office and several Turkcell shops with 2 Turkish friends over the last few months...blood and stone springs to mind!!!

My granddaughter dropped her phone in the swimming pool, came in and covered it with rice all night,
And it was fine next day, just a little tip to try, must take all the condensation out of it.
