residency permit

yesterday i  spent a long day applying for residency permit
i had to go to the local mutlar which has now moved to opposite
the new accident department (new hospital)
here i was asked to make a donation 10ytl
 then had to go to gunabassi police
with photocopies of passport, old residency book
then back to fethiye to customs police(lunch at 12 pm so closed)
get forms to take to police in fethiye,stamped and signed by top policeman
go to tax office got form from upstairs took it downstairs to pay
it cost 815 ytl this is for 2 years
took forms back to customs police where i was told maybe 2 months for new book
i followed the instructions mainly from fethiyetimes but the order of steps not same
it was a long process and imposible with out my turkish friend
has anyone else done it for staying in turkey?

yes me and probably hundreds of other people, there is no easy way round it, if there is and you hear about it let us know!!

Take Mandy with you from the Forum Bar she is an absolute star and knows exactly what she is doing re paperwork ect .

just a line to say i got my permit
after 9 weeks and many phone calls only to find a stamp and signature on back page
9 weeks so if anyone waiting, go in and ask them to look for yours
there were about 20 others waiting in a drawer.....

Yes we got our residency in 8 weeks or thereabouts. We went via Asli ( translator in Fethyie ).
We got 5 year ones each . Cost £800 each. ( was I robbed? ) Other than going to the tax office and passport office, Asli sent every thing by courier to Mugla. Took a bit of pushing and continual phone calls but got there in the end. Do we have to go through your scenario when we get another 2 years and is it right that after 7 years we can apply for a passport and not need the residency?

I did it many times for our customers .
It is really hard and needs patience .
Although I am used to Turkish bureaucracy , it is one of the hardest work and nearly impossible without a Turkish speaking person.
I advice to get it for 5 years in order not to live the nightmare in every 2-3 years.

Congrats....It is a lovely feeling when you get that little Blue book in your hand, especially when you walk straight through to Passport control at Dalaman without queueing for a visa stamp.
