Olympics Rio 2016
« on: July 18, 2016, 15:22:59 PM »
It is starting in two and a half weeks. Are you excited? Or has Brazilian government corruption (President suspended and going to court) and Zika virus, top sports players (especially golf) not going, state sponsored doping by Russia, (etc. etc.) put you off?

Not put off at all.

I'm an avid watcher of most sports so the Olympics (particularly track and field) is a must.

Boxing will be way up there for me and I think there's rugby sevens as well.

Deep joy.....

I'll be watching out for the Samba Dancers at the opening and closing ceremonies.  ;)

KKOB - surely, what you're describing isn't exactly an Olympic event?

Or maybe, what you have in mind can be described as that.

Hopefully Justin Rose and Danny Willetts (sp.?) can do well at golf.

But how can golf be an Olympic sport when squash is not?

Darts next? No training - practice only.

Surely there's a difference between pursuits that you have to train for and those that you merely have to practice to perfect?

Tiddlywinks. No training to be good at that, merely practice.

As much as it's mocked, synchronised swimming (or underwater flower arranging using human bodies) requires incredible amounts of training and years of dedication to perfect).

Some Olympic sports are just plain silly and as much as I love watching golf, it's NEVER an Olympic sport.

John Daly could get a gold medal at that.

The Iran official Olympic uniform is so ugly that a wit on Iranian social media has posted: "Daesh has claimed responsibility for designing the outfit."

Just heard about the Refugee Team on the BBC.

Surely worth of our admiration.  :)

I would recommend the Beach Volley Ball  ;).

On a more serious note I do look forward immensely to the "big ticket" events.
