I think most people use Seker Bank. but take your passport with you.

Generally speaking, the difference in rates between the Döviz and the banks is a kuruş or two at most (one way or the other).  Unless you're changing a (very) large sum, I've don't see the point to queuing up in a bank to save the equivalent of a cup of çay.

We have noted that sometimes the Change Shops in Fethiye give just as good a rate as the Banks.
No way would I go into a Bank nowadays to change money.  The queues and hassle are far to great.
We try to avoid Banks at all costs.
Unfortunately, our Bank, the Ing have, for some reason, not paid our Standing Order for the Electric, which means it has been cut off.  We are now faced with going into the Bank next month and are dreading it.
Who wants to stand for an hour in a queue ??

Jacqui. Why not ask Ing to pay the reconnection charge as they are at fault? Good luck.

I have never waited longer than 10 minutes in Seker Bank to change money and the difference between them and Dikmen  Change office this morning was 9 Kurus per Pound. If , like many of us here,  you get your pensions paid into an English account  and draw it out in Sterling, changing at a bank gives quite a bit of difference to your sum. Worth the small wait in my opinion.

We would like to change from the Ing Bank, but cannot face the hassle it would cause.  We try to keep away from the Ing as much as possible as we hate the place and are sorry we every changed to them.
I think there would be little chance of them recompensing us in any way for our electricity being cut off.

How about the PTT to exchange money? I have no idea since I use zero/zero plastic at ATMs but I have read people recommending the rates (if not necessarily the service).

Wow,  I am now wondering should we get some money before we come over in September, just in case the rate drops dramatically.

Can you think of any reason in Turkish economy or politics why the lira would be boosted? Or do you think the pound may collapse?

Just how does he do it?

If I were you Jacqui. I would be more concerned how much they want to charge you to fly here ,as you have said on here it costs you a lot more to fly here from Scotland than England. and to be honest with you . you could get a better deal going elsewhere, and take it from me, nothing is happening here, people are leaving and other people not  bothering to come out again this year. pop off and have a chicken topkapi in Spain or Portugal. wont cost you as much and you will certainly meet more people than here. then you can still come on CBF and tell people how much better it was, if you have the bottle.   ;)  :) Regards Des.

We have already booked for the trip over.  As we are lucky enought to have a lovely Villa we really like to spend time there.   We  do not do a lot, just chill out by the pool and have some lovely dinners out.  Great to be outside in our own place in comfort and privacy.
We did just come back from a Baltic Cruise where we visited 7 different countries, so we are not soley visiting Calis. We may even have a trip somewhere before Christmas.
Looking forward to our trip over to Calis just had some work on the house and a new coat of paint so looking forward to seeing it.  It is looking good from the pictures we have received.

Just answering Des's question about not coming to Calis.  I gave the reasons why we will be coming. Also, missed out one reason.  The exchange rate is very good now, will have to see just how much shopping I can do in a month..  ;D

Yeah, I can see the sense in hedging your bets and exchanging half now and half when you are over there. But unfortunately I can't really see any good news for Turkey in the next three months. In two weeks, when the Easyjet flights for Bristol-Dalaman are released, I will book a Turkey trip for the 20th year and this time we will take our daughter, son-in-law and granddaughter with us. I do wonder how many more visits there will be even at these advantageous exchange rates.

O.K. What is today's exchange rate and how does it effect the price of Efes ?   :)

Had the exchange rate stayed at 2.5, Efes would be around £4 a pint in many places today.

Sorry Davy, but it was painted blue when we bought it.  However, I have the perfect excuse.  Phil (season ticket) and my son Paul go to watch Peterhead play, so Peterhead are our second team.  They play in Blue as  Peterhead is the Blue Toon....   Mavi Villa is Peterhead Blue.
Sorry again H.

Does anyone think it will be 5.00 Lira soon ?

Just read  that in Kalkan you can change money anywhere, all the jewellery shops etc., still have their signs up in the windows with the rate they offer.
I am wondering why this is?  Is it just our area around Fethiye that has stopped the shops changing money?  I assumed it was a law all around Turkey, but seems it is not.

Dear Davybill, Liverpool supporter, are you from Liverpool cos if you are you would know that that blue is nowhere near the wonderful colour blue of Everton Football Club, so stop your winging.
