Depends whether you're buying or selling.  I changed up some Sterling earlier this week and got 2.63.

2.75 yesterday from finans,but the fella who stands outside the clothes shop in fethiye was giving 2.79

The guy outside the clothes shop short changed me once also (only £20 was changed). He has been showing a rate of 2.79 every day when I checked between the 29 august and 10 september 2006 & he still obviously hasnt changed the rate ! this is a give away and before that the rate was 2.74 for about a week - he is normally a few kurus higher than the official rate so that he gets you in and offers less! Its hard if you only pass him without knowing what the rate was before . Just search on google.com.tr if unsure and you get the daily rate that way for all major foreign currencies into turkish lira . Failing that if anyone tries to call passers by inside and seems over helpful then likelihood is that he is ripping you off !most change places dont tout for business but will offer a higher rate if you change more and ask for more .

I only used the guy once - never again.

Used him twice - he tried to con us both times.
The 2nd time was only because we needed a small amount of cash, banks were closed & didn't have card on us.
I made sure he gave us the rate on the board NOT the much lesser exchange rate he tried to. 'It's just pennies, it makes no difference'!!
We avoid & use Nationwide & Finansbank.
He's got make a fortune in cons from Tourists who are not members of this forum.
If you do use him - make sure YOU count your cash after he's handed it to you, in front of him - don't just let him count it as he's good at sleight of hand.
Catch him out & you will get the money he owes you with a smile. I reckon many don't bother counting it, after seeing him count it in front of them & walk out short.
