The exchange rate (Interbank)GBP - TRL is very good at the moment. Just look at the change since September last year.

17/9/03 2,217,610 trl

27/05/04 2,771,672 trl

That's a 25% improvement! Any ideas why it has risen so much?

last week we were getting 2610000 as a standard from on the street changers.  I got 2640000 from Finans Bank on 17 May.  There is a guy on the road where all the banks are who offers a high rate on his board outside (he sits beside the board) - beware because you do not get it when you get inside.  He offered 2690000 on the board for cash but only calculated at 2610000 which was the same as all the others.  Obviously the rate has climbed since then and if Lloydstsb are giving 2600000 at the moment for travel money then it must be a lot better over there.

Being an oldie on going to Turkey. I remember the 1st time I went we got 8,000 to the pound. The next time we went (6 months later) it was 13,000.
Over the years the poor Turks have had raging inflation of 60-100% upwards.
It wasn't a century ago that it was 8,000. At the most it was probably just 23 years ago.
This is why the interest rates are so good. You do not have a guaranteed return on your money as inflation could wipe away any gains. You have to watch the rates very carefully to make money. Saying that if you time it right then you can live well on very little in the bank. If you time it wrongly you could lose a great deal.
