Volatile exchange rates
« on: June 18, 2008, 22:50:51 PM »
I have been watching the £/L exchange rate over the past week or so and it seems to be on a roller-coaster of a ride. Can any of you "old-hands" tell me if this is usual at this time of year, and what the present rate of exchange in resort is(the one from shops and the like), as you are lucky to get £1/2.27L in banks here.I am coming on holiday soon and will be exchanging the majority of my money there.

Many thanks,
Glenn :)

Most of the official exchange shops(Dovis) will give you about 4-5 Kurus less than the official Bank exchange rates which are available on lots of financial pages on the www. Avoid anywhere not offering these rates and bite the hand off anyone offering better, BUT be very aware they may not all be genuine as have been discussed on this Forum. Generally you will do better exchanging in Turkey as compared to the UK Yesterday the Dovis rate was 2.35 :)

Unfortunately last week is history as indeed was my figure for yesterday.  The important figure is now and for anything in the future you will have to see.:D

Thank you Brian and Ron for the info.
Last year we were getting 2.55 to the pound, but as you say that was last year!
Lets hope it goes up a bit before the 30th of June.

Get a Nationwide debit card & you,ll always get the best rate. Better than any bank or exchanger. NO fees charges - hidden or otherwise.

Perhaps Scunner should get Nationwide to sponsor this site since CBF members are advertizing NW so regularly - and quite rightly too.

I agree Colwyn.
But, once you have left UK, no address anymore, how can you open an account,. This is one of the main problems I have since I sold our house three months ago.

Regards

Steve
