Hi,
I have just registered for the forum. My name is Dave, user name is albaman. I live in Scotland. Have holidayed in Turkey several times since 1995, particularly Olu Deniz area. My partner Ann & I love the place.
We have recurring thoughts to move to Fethiye/ Calis Beach area. I am 59 & wonder about moving to Turkey on retiral, hopefully in the not too distant future. Ann is a bit younger than me so not sure if she would want to carry on working if we move to Turkey.
Anyway....thats our brief story....just thought it best to introduce ourselves.
Cheers

Hi and a very warm welcome to the Forum. We moved here four years ago and have never regretted it for one second. For any given income level you will have a much much better standard of living and a considerably healthier lifestyle than you will have in the UK.  Don't make the mistake of comparing living here with a couple of weeks holiday when you tend to "Splash out a bit"  If you want to you can live here very cheaply.  Try it for six months by renting but do include a period out of season to see if you really like it......if you don't which I doubt you will have had a six month holiday!:D

Hi Dave & Ann, welcome to the forum, tell Ann not to worry about working here, unless she does a specialised job, i don't think there is much chance of her getting one, if a Turk can do it, you can't, my dream was to retire here as well, i managed it 17 months ago, i haven't looked back since. Thanks for the welcomes folks. I suppose one of the biggest things is "ok...I love holidays there but will I like it permanently?" We have visited less touristy areas & did a gulet trip. We are both outdoorsy sorts, both like walking, Ann likes horses & I am a total water person, swimming, boating, river rafting if it's in or on the water I love it! Also love good company & socialising.
We have lived in Shetland Isles for past 30 years so it's pretty quiet here. I've got a small boat & would want to carry on boating if we moved out, are small boats reasonably priced?
Anyway, thanks again, I'm listening to the rain pounding on the window & wondering "what am I doing here".
Cheers,
Dave

We made the move 11 months ago, no regrets whatsoever. Wake up to blue skies almost every day, 23/24 degrees today, still wearing shorts and t shirt. I too like the water, walking and socialising, there is plenty of all three which you can join in as much or as little as you want. Great lifestyle.
