Anybody else see this channel 4 documentary on friday. Interesting but horrific. I didn't realize how wide spread and how much of this still went on. Mainly in the east but still very prevalent in Istanbul. Apparently to come in to line with Europe they are giving stronger prison sentences for this practice so to get round it men insist their women commit suicide to save their honour and it saves them getting a prison sentence. If a man does get a prison sentence for an honour killing he is treated with respect in prison. It didn't mention what happens to a woman if she kills her husband.
