I also think the price of alcohol has a big effect on how attractive many Brits view a holiday destination and apart from beer, it is very expensive here, I was in Migros yesterday and an average 70 cl bottle of spirits is about £27 and much of the wine was around the £12 mark.

Even in "my day" I spotted a bottle of Harvey's Stamp in Migros - I'd pay £5 max in the UK - 50 liras there - more in fact, than a bottle of imported Scotch whisky in the same shop!!
