Use of Debit and Credit Cards
« on: May 30, 2005, 20:18:36 PM »
Hello There,

Tony and I are coming to Hisaronu on the 1st July for two weeks to complete the purchase of a 4 bedroom villa. Whilst there we will be buying furniture etc and although we have seen some very useful information on where to buy everything, e.g. Erun Spot and the Million Shop what we would like to know is do they take Debit and Credit cards.

Secondly, which bank is best and quickest for setting up a Sterling Bank account and a Turkish bank account and also On-line banking services.

Many thanks

Joy

hi joy and welcome we bought most of our furniture from erin spot  and the million shop we opened an account with finansbank , the staff speak very good english and just ask for AYSE she is very good and goes through everything you need to know.we opened 2 accounts one for sterling and a turkish account for bills etc . we took sterling over to pay for our furniture and paid cash ,i think we got quite a few things cheaper because we did this. good luck  with your purchase of your villa

Hi Joy welcome to the forum, good luck with the furnishing when you come out.

Garanti Bank offer on-line banking in English, however, (and i don't know if this applies to other banks) when you go into the bank to withdraw money, you queue by ticket allocation and it seems there is a pecking order.
1. Business (Mega frequent user)
2. Business (Frequent user)
3. Business (Occassional user)
4. Garanti Card (Frequent user)
5. Garanti Card (Occassional user)
6. Ticket only (Lowest of the low)

There is a preference to customers who obtain their tickets by using either a business or Garanti Card, if you get your ticket without using a card you can have a very long wait until you reach the till, and that wait can be anything up to 1-1/4 hrs.

I must take the time one day and apply for a Garanti Card or change banks.

Thank you all so much for your prompt responses. The information you have given is brilliant. We both look forward to coming out soon and enjoying our new home in the sun.

This is a great forum and hopefully we will meet up with many of you when we get settled. Our property will be rented out from next year so this year we are hoping to make the most of it for our friends and family to use.

Many thanks once again.

I'm sure I'll be asking more questions soon.

Regards

Joy

We have used a Credit card at both shops; both prefer cash for non large amounts. With Erun Spot, yours goods could be fitted before you get back, excelant service & value. 8)

Hi All,

Can I just confirm that Erin/un/en take £ounds.
We too will be over to furnish our apartment soon, but thought we were going to have to convert to Lira.

Thank-you.

Glen
