Visitors up, down or the same to Turkey in 2015
« on: April 06, 2015, 14:42:05 PM »
Just wondering how good a season its going to be this year and whether anyone has seen or heard anything about tourist numbers to Turkey for this year...

Do people think the ISIS/ISIL/Syria situation will affect numbers?

The numbers of Russian tourists are predicted to be significantly down and those that come may be spending less. This is probably important for resorts from Antalya to Alanya but I guess not so much so for west of Antalya - although Marmaris now has many tourist notices, menus. hotel ads, etc. in English, German and Cyrillic.

Jan & Feb were slightly up on last year, but until the first quarter figures are released its difficult to gauge it against previous years.

Locally, its -2 as we've no plans to be back before May 2016...

With the Lira at the level it is to the pound I think the Brit focussed resorts could do well this year.  As to the terrorist threat, experience of British tourists suggests that if there is a bargain to be had, they will go to most destinations in Europe/USA (including Turkey) when there is a terrorist or natural disaster.. not sure about some other destinations like Africa/Far East. History has shown that the 'plucky' Brits do not like to miss their annual holiday for anyone or anything, particulalrly when they think they have grabbed a bargin.

It is my belief that the next terrorist attack will be where it is least expected because that's the way they operate.

That being the case a tourist is no safer, or vulnerable in one location than another.

Personally as to the terrorist threat in Turkey, the same could be said 4 wherever you go, the separatist movements in Spain, problems in the Middle East etc. we could all holiday in Southend on Sea, but bu--er them all we are off to Calis in June. Take your choices whenever you step outside your front door!!

A few friends were going to Tunisia immediately after the attack there. Having been there last year and enjoyed it, I wondered if I would have gone straight after the terrorist act. And I decided I would.

Some of the deals straight after were amazing, and as people have said, it could happen anywhere and possibly the least likely place might just be the one where it last happened.
