Testing the water
« on: July 30, 2011, 16:44:37 PM »
Have just returned from a terrific holiday in Calis and spent a few days looking at some properties in the Calis area. My thanks to Interturk, Efes Estates and Tlos Emlak for allowing us to view a wide variety of apartments in our price range.
We will certainly buy in Calis but appreciate the good advice found on this website and from friends in Calis regarding leasing for a year and spending time off-season in the Calis area. This would also allow us a more leisurely pursuit of locating a Calis home.
We are both recently retired teachers and have enjoyed summer holidays in Calis for many years.
We are looking for a year's lease on a property (2 bedroom minimum) in the Calis/Gulukbasi Market area. A pool on a small complex would be ideal. We are thinking of September 2011--September2012 as being an ideal period to "test the water" on a future purchase.
You can email me direct with any offers. I will reply to all.
Congratulations to Supacabby on locating a 6 month rental beginning in September. The response from Forum Members prompted this request.

I hope you have as many offers as I did! I was lucky I guess, I have a friend in Calis who viewed several properties for me & she chose my new home for 8 months starting in September, I haven't even seen it yet but the pics look lovely!

Good luck with the water test, we will have to share an Efes or 2 & our experience to see what we think of the horrid place after the winter lol.

Likewise memsahib and I carefully noting all experiences of people renting in Calis/Fethiye.

Bit nervous about buying any property abroad as the regime/government can change so rapidly and the attitude towards
"foreigners" go from welcoming with a smile to hostile to downright life threating very quickly indeed! Had experience of this twice before, at one time escorted to the aircraft at gunpoint!

So, our thoughts currently are to rent our home in Uk and rent in Calis -- at least we can upsticks quickly if it became nec essary and not leabving a large equity abroad with perhaps no chance of seeing it again!

Turkey appears stable, but, over the past years I have watched the degradation of its secular stance and the rise of islamist government and cant help wondering how long it will be before the restrictions and religious interloerance surface --- I hope never -- but dont think I would buy property.

post your esperiences after the winter!
