Title: Will the last person to leave the building please switch off the lights.
Post by: KKOB on February 08, 2017, 12:11:28 PM
The Turkish government has dismissed more than 4,400 public employees, including hundreds of academics, in a fresh round of purges that have in the past elicited criticism from the country’s western allies.

Its just another day and another round of purges Alan, and lets not forget the three hundred or so academics who got jottered last week.

Expect more in the coming weeks as the referendum roadshow picks up momentum.

It may even get to stage where there's no one left to vote no.

Almost time to drag out my paraphrased version of Pastor Martin Niemöllers little ditty again...

I didn't think I knew it, John.

Just read it.

It seems that I did know it but not who wrote it.

"Little ditty" it ain't.

Kick in the nuts, it is.

Like the Edmund Burke "good men doing nothing" line.

Whilst I sit here in sunny Devon - doing nothing.

Updated version:

First they came for the Generals,
and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a General.

Then they came for the journalists,
and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a journalist.

Then they came for the Kemalists,
and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a Kemalist.

Then they came for the Gulenists,
and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a Gulenist.

Then they came for the HDP,
and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a member of the HDP.

Then they came for the academics,
and I didn't speak out because I wasn't an academic.

Then they came for the youth,
and I didn't speak out because I was old.

Then they came for me,
and there was no one left to speak for me.
