People with residency can get a kimlik number by following the link provided by land of lights.   When I asked the Turkish Embassy about cars I was told that I could only buy if I had residency. I thought the law had been for a long while that you couldn't buy of sell a vehicle without residency but understand from reading this forum that some people have bought with just a tourist visa.

We also spoke to Koray, Atak Translation, today and it seems that it is a software program at the Notary's that has only a space for a kimlik number therefore they cannot put in a passport number.
It was the same problem earlier in the year when you needed a kimlik number to buy a car. That was resolved so he fully expects this problem to be resolved within a few weeks and then you will be able to buy and sell a car without residency.

I read recently on another forum that in Dalaman by putting 10 in front of your tax number - the programme accepted the code and the person bought the car they had been trying to buy for a few months.

It really is a lottery - car / bike sales are surely good for the local economy?

I bought a car on tourist visa 4 years ago, didnt know if i could do .But  when i asked they said You bought apartment or house. they are much more expensive so why wouldnt you be able to buy a car? So had no problems Just needed Tax number.
They must be able to sort this new problem out.
Sold my car anyway last year as I found it cheaper and easy just to use Dolmuses so i have no probs:D

Seems like the goalposts have moved (again) so you must now provide your Turkish ID Number to sell a vehicle.
No problem if you have a residency permit though...

http://tckimlik.nvi.gov.tr/Web/ForeignQueryIdentityNumber.aspx

1. Enter Resim Dogrulama - The graphic number on the right.
2. Dogum Yili - Your year of birth.
3. ikamet Tezkere No - The number in the front of your book xx/xxxxx.
4. Sanal klavyeyi kullanmak istiyor - Check this box.
5. Then hit Return to get your ID number.

Hot Tip: Now write your ID number on the front page of your residency permit.

You are now officially just a number! :(

There are quite a few people here that have probably had a residency and due to the latest cost have let them lapse in favour of a 90 day visa.If so its likely that by using Mikems formula they will achieve the number that seems to be needed.J

Well, to be brutally honest - No I have not. And I still haven't!
Whatever and wherever this may appear may even reveal stunning revelations...
but I just can't be arsed to search.
I simply hope that the meagre information I impart might prove useful.

It's only 6 posts above yours so not that hard to find? Surely when adding info to a topic you read what has already been said?

If your residency has lapsed but you still have the blue book your can achieve a kimlik number using the previously posted formula. It is not a variation of any tax number you may have nor is it a variation of a passport number. They are being referred to as 99 numbers>,ie 99 plus 9 0ther numbers.Hope this helps
