Went into Max's bar tonight totaly revamped new kitchen and bar area extended now better than ever ! and at last he's sorted the beer ! 2 fridges and cold beer on draught ! good luck Max i will be encouraging all the local expats to use your bar.Plus he has HD tv coverage of the world cup.See ya all there for the football'Come on England@

Where exactly is this in relation to say, Kum City Beach bar, as we are down at that end of the prom.

Sands is in Koca Calis. Past Seaside, Sunset and the Surf Cafe. Keep going about another 10 minutes after the Surf Cafe and you will see it in between the Birlik and Mutlu's
Worth a trip.

We went during our visit last week and it has improved 100% on last year well worth a visit

I have been in max's bar on 7 occasions since my first posting and football was only on tv on 3 of those occasions!so to say i only go in when football is on is incorrect!So i think going to a bar 7 times in 13 days makes me quite a good customer.

Beer is 4 ytl the same as just about everywhere. It wasn't any more expensive when England played as we were there both games.

This will be my last posting on this subject as it is now getting boring.
Max was charging 3tl for torborg draught.Which he put up to 4tl when England were playing,which is a 33.3% rise,and then back down to 3tl when Spain v Switzerland were on tv.One bar in Calis was selling torborg draught at 2tl only a couple of months ago and still making a profit on it. Another bar in the area is charging 4tl for draught Effes which is a much better beer.Another bar charges 3.5tl for bottled Effes and one bar does 3 beers for 10tl.So good luck Max's hope you have a good season.

The beer was 4ytl when England weren't playing. I know I was there. Tuborg is ok and when he has it , like now, Efes is the same price.

I think when on holiday is no problem for most people because we are earning English money. When English people live in Turkey then comes a different view point because they are not anymore on English wages and begin to see some prices in bars and restaurants as excessive.

Blimey it's not even 50p! If you went out and watched the footie and managed to down 5 pints we're talking about two quid!!!

So next time you walk in your local and the beer goes up 40p a pint do not say a word just pay up ? i doubt that very much?

I'm not on holiday! i have lived here for 4 and a half years.I'm not a liar i know what i was charged,and i know its only 1 lira but you cant tell people the beer is one price and then charge them more at the end of the evening.And its still a 33.3% hike

Isn't that what garyo is saying happened? You've confused me now 8)
I know people hate to see prices changing and I do too, a lira more because there was a belly dancer on etc (I want a lira off the price of a beer if I have to suffer such 'entertainment'!) but it is also frustrating how people want the cheapest beer possible but want things like Sky Sports so they can watch big games - someone has to pay for that and if you are paying bottom prices for your drinks it won't be possible for too long.

Went to Sans Bar for World Cup ordered meals day before arrived on night and had to wait nearly 2 hours for meal, draft beer only and was awful, no cold efes at all, disaster, waiters did not know what to do would not go again to eat

I don't know what the problem is with Tuborg draft - it was fine and very cold. A refreshing change from Efes actually and I never thought I would say that.
I agree he has had problems getting his staff working on their own initiative but I'm sure it will get better.

It's funny to read that the beer was so absolutely awful, but they wouldn't go there to eat again. :D

I agree Keith and to be honest I would not be prepared to wait 2 hours for a meal. I would have complained and probably gone elsewhere long before 2 hours were up.
It's OK ordering your meal the night before but they ain't gonna cook it until you turn up I expect.
I stand by the beer - OK and not awful at all. That's just my opinion though but Jim also managed to down a few without complaint.

Iam sorry But I have to write this you come to restaurant day b4 football you eat is well was fantastic if not why you order next day dinner is well I know why you complain same night your friend order me lobster and he asked how much about and few of your friends heard lobster from fish market roofly 100 120 tl per kilo I explain and he ordered for next day but I dont know you will paye bill you complain loads and of night bcoz of bill I told you dont paye go ask fish market if you can find cheeper then this price will be free for you and you didnt belive me next day you payed why? come on man pls dont do it cant be that much easy you traying to kill my busines.......

We were there for the footy, and were treated very well. The beer went down a treat too, a shame the lads on the pitch couldn't do better. We didn't try to eat, as we thought it looked busy. We will definately visit the bar for food and a few drinks the next time were over though.

Max does a bloody good job we have never had any problems, i do know there was a certain group who felt they didnt need to pay for their drinks and clearly left without paying. come on you guys max has to make a living

Aha - I remember that night - first England game and a load of ex-pats (10 or 12) sat eating and boozing - a real blow out! Lobster was taken to their table and we thought it would be bloody expensive, even at Max's prices! Then they all seemed to have their own bill, ordered beers and shorts like there was no tomorrow. The waiters didn't know what was going on with all the separate orders and people coming and going at the table all night. It was very busy and we had to wait about 45 mins for our meal - no problem under the circumstances.
Then after the game we saw them all get up and leave and Maggie commented that it looked like some had just walked off without paying (they were right in out eye line so we couldn't miss them really)
That sort of customer you can do without Max. Those that pay their bills are the ones you want!

That's disgusting. How can people do that. Bet they wouldn't even consider trying to do it in the UK, so why do they think it's acceptable in Turkey. MUPPETS !!!!

It's one of the amazing things about Turkey - as a complete stranger you are trusted from the first ever meeting. There is nothing much in it for the bar, this great gesture means they at best get what is owed to them and at worst lose out in a big way.
I hope Max remembers them, I'm sure their paths will cross again.

The thing is when I spoke to Max about this (there was a misunderstanding the next day and his brother Fuat thought some of our neighbours were the ones who hadn't paid and I went down to explain what had happened and that they were not with the group but just sat at the end of their table due to it being so busy) he was not prepared to upset these ex-pats even though he had a fair idea who had not paid. I guess he put it down to experience and would make sure his staff were more clued up next time.
I know times are hard but it's a written rule that you pay for your beer and food.

That few people they dont come any more so Iam happy bcoz they are not happy when they are here so Iam sure hunders bar and restaurant they find place where they like to spend time my side god is well bcoz when they here all the time suprise and of night early Iam thinking what will be 2 night stressfull anyway when Iam more profesional than like to see them .........................

Well Maxi boy, you will still have the pleasure of my family again in 5 weeks time we will be out for a month,
last year even in busy times you still went out of your way by going and getting bottles of Miller or what ever we asked for that you never had, this time and there will be 20 of us so fill the fridge up with beer get the football on and you wont get any complaints from us Tottenham or Westham boys good luck with the rest of the season mate

Good to see your still stessing out. You can't please everyone but you will always try. I still haven't put the pictures on, but I will.

I find it intersting that you can slag our group of friends off for writing a bad report on max bar. If max put prices on his menu would help, we was assured if we ordered the night before it would make it easier for him, us girls did walk out and went into Calis as not interested in Football, but our men folk did stop.We was assured that the special in clay pot would be good, not enought in 1 pot for 2 people as promised and 30 mins late for rice and chips.we paid for everything. As 13 of us stopping we put a large sum of money into the area over 14 days. but service poor. Not just us walked out that night as many locals and over long term Brits did not get fodd either all went to other sands bar and boogied the night away. What a difference in service.

When you here then big stress for me this group you cant make every one happy My service & food rubbish also no cold beer no football expencive sun bads and umbrellas every thing crap in this place but I dont know why full every day must be my mistake hope you happy now ;)

We went to Sands Bar, 10 of us and got ignored, so we went next door to Birlik and received a good meal and good service. We also stumbled across the Birlik on our first day on a wee walk, had no money but the owner Dormous (sorry for mis-spelling) gave us 2 beers anyway

Max - Are you at the sands bar which is close to the Birlik ? If so I am sorry to say that the service on your fire eating night was very poor which made us go to the Birlik, we did try to sample the food at Sands bar (my choice over the others) but the fact that we were ignored and then another table of 4 or 5 got service before us made us change venues, sorry but thats the facts of my experience

yes near birlik and true that night nearly all tables complain and my chef did it a lot of mistakes that night but if you remember same time nearly 15 table come and order food same time dosent mater 15 or 20 table have to be good service but didnt work that night sorry about :-\ also I have a 2 chef now sorry anyway

It might look empty from the road but often people are sat further down. We've been in when it looks empty but usually found a good few people sat on the lovely tables by the beach.

I must say Max seems to endure more attacks and negative posts on here than almost any bar/restaurant owner. He's too busy, too empty, too slow - maybe people should give the guy a break!

I agree - he's trying to build a business from scrap and in a quiet-ish area. Good luck to him and anyone else who opens up in Koca Calis.

Iam not misrable or selfish Iam building busines or trying to build never mind I have a mistakes yes Iam not perfect few people around here did exacly same foxy game to tekin suat mithat and more bar owners whats happened finally they cudunt run busines bcoz of price mean all the time you complain my beers 4 tl same is others I know few people will saye seril and anna bla bla but different is We have a FREE sun bads and umbrella I didnt catch from sea food prices ok anyway Dont worrie for me my beach busies beach every day full Iam sending some time people my neighbours bcoz no empty sun bad and I have a 150 sun bad also night time exacly same tables with other restaurants and moustly Iam busy then my neighbour I cant write name here sory yes Iam upset and a little angry is well never mind you did it very small problems big and big and big I want 2 write here more then 15 forenest british who live here they came to my bar nearly every day ............ they are nice ;)this is my last explain text I will be here forever bcoz my own land who like to spend time with me very wellcome who dont like me respect [|)]

I am glad all your sun beds are full each day and I hope it continues. As for your Effes prices at 4 TL it is the same price on calis beach, small effes at 4TL and large ones at 5TL. We haven't managed to get to your beach bar so far as we have only walked to your area early mornings before it gets hot. But next year if we are lucky to get away to calis, we will make the effort to walk to your area and sit on your sunbeds drink your Effes and eat your food. We may need to get a taxi back though.

Max sells large Efes at 4ytl as well as large Tuborg at the same price. I thought most of the large Efes in Calis was 4ytl as well. It certainly was when we were there a few weeks back.
