Title: Too Many Buttons
Post by: engineerdave on April 11, 2014, 21:49:15 PM
I love this site I really do. But why does it have to be bombarded with all these buttons. I know there are only 2. The "new" button and the even newer "like"button. But be honest am I the only one that feels they are to in your face? As soon as you go to the opening main page "bang " they just hit you in the face. They seem to take up the whole page. Ok I know you will all be saying Dave's off again but I just have to say it. Surely if they really do have to be on the forum for whatever reason can they not be made to look smaller and more pleasing to the eye.
I guess I will get the backlash now.

I'm not sure what you are seeing Dave but to me the Like button could hardly be described as huge. Is your view different?

This must be something unique to laptops or PC's as no buttons as described show up on an I pad or I phone.  Suspect it won't show on a Mac either. If this is the case, some tweaks in the coding will reduce the size of the buttons for machines running the Windows OS. Will be interesting to know if Android OS is also affected.

My sympathies are with the people who run the sites you don't like

Nope....looked at IE and Firefox on a laptop, even changed the zoom settings. Still small buttons

Which all means what? That I have made all this up?

So far I've viewed the forum on Windows, Linux and Android, all show the like button and it is sized appropriately.  Browsers IE, FF, Chrome, Midori and Safari all show the like button correctly.  iStuff users are more than welcome to post screenshots and we'll make the necessary code changes to allow them to view the button correctly also, if they dont already that is.

That's better customer service than phuking Amazon...

Jeeeez...no, it means that I clearly can't see what you can. How about you let me know what Browser and version you are using, what device (PC? Laptop?) and also take a screenshot and then upload it in your message so I can see what you see and in turn I may be able to resolve it.

I have to say Dave, in all my time on this forum I have never once been rude to any member but honestly, are you looking for help or just a good moan.

No, once again you've made a huge thing out of a tiny change. I wish I had the time you obviously do.

Its hardly a little thing to me Scunner as you can see from my screenshot. Why would I bring the subject up if it was not bothering me.
Don't worry though with you three all against me what chance do I stand at getting a sensible answer and  civilised reply or beter still a resolution to my post. If you cannot see why I raised the point in the first place then you all need glasses. The buttons are way to big and do distract from vewing the posts. Whch after all is that not what we are all on here for to veiw and read the posts.
I guess not in your eyes, Buttons are more important to veiw.
Goodnight.

Engineerdave - with the greatest of respect this forum has 10,500+ members and you seem to think that the layout should be changed because one member doesn't LIKE it.

And in case you hadn't noticed this is a forum and I am equally entitled to express my opinion as you are.

There are people waiting to find out if their relatives on a flight are dead or alive, but I do appreciate how important this is Dave.

It isn't.

Goodnight.

i always look at both sides of an argument/discussion/rant then use all my previous experiences relating to the said argument/discussion/rant, then come to a conclusion, and in this case i find that the button (the one i see) does not cause me any problem, although i would prefer another colour scheme and also not wishing to be overly fussy, i would prefer a softer font, and possibly move it to the right hand side of the page.

Engineerdave - may I suggest that, given the number of likes posted for the opposing view to your own suggests that you are in the minority and that you should accept the view of the majority

Aha......

To be fair, that is a little busy looking. Hardly huge buttons though. A quick colour change should do the job.....how about bright red

Nope,  still the wrong colour, lol, now that is tooo big, but fair play to Steve it could be the same size as the "new" or even just a thumbs up image, or has another less entertaining site got that first, :-)

Good morning everyone...lovely day outside
At long last now you can see my screenshot you can actually see what I am seeing and are beginning to agree that I am not exagerating. Scunner it is not an urgent matter to me and I never said it was. I just wanted you all to see why it was/is annoying me. and was asking for a solution (sensible one Scunner and Steve R44) to the problem. Maybe a smaller like button would make it easer to veiw and a less bright colour.I dont know you are the experts. I'm just a thick engineer.  :)
Have a nice day everyone. And Steve control yourself   :)

Not wishing to fuel the argument but I don't see what Engineerdave sees in his screenshot. Mine is the same but without the LIKE boxes.
I do see them on the posts though.

Can anyone post a lesson on how to do a screenshot for future refrence please.

Well, with no particular opinion on the size, or quantity of 'like' buttons,( I'l get used to them) I just want to say that.......... You've just gotta love this forum...... I'm sitting here , loaded with the cold. Feeling totally miserable and sorry for myself and with only  one week to go before our flight there, this actually cheered me up and made me laugh....................... Oh!... Not at anyone's expense of course. Phew! Glad I got that last bit in there before I got verbally pummeled    ;D

Can anyone post a lesson on how to do a screenshot for future refrence please.

This is how I do it.  You can copy your screen by pressing CTRL and Print Screen (can be PRTSC or similar on the key - top right, normally after the F1 to F12 keys) together - that copies the screen you are looking at, then you can paste it into a photo viewing/editing program (whatever opens your photos for you).

When you press Prt Scr you don.t see anything until you have copied and pasted into a photo viewing program.

Wow, didn't know that Marggie, thanks.  In my ignorance, I thought perhaps you took a photo of the screen with your camera/phone and then uploaded and pasted.  You learn something new on here every day.   :)

To take a screen shot on an IPad hold in the on/off button and press the home button. The screenshot should be in your camera rol.
