I'm going to regret saying this but no, I haven't tried it because I haven't been bitten. Yet. This year.
*treads softly out of the room*
-
I tried it and it worked.!!
The pain of the bite was obliterated by the pain of the blister that replaced it. :)
-
That's what I was thinking might happen 'cos it says "warm the spoon under hot water" NOT "heat the spoon 'til it's going into meltdown".
-
This works by the way. My wife who suffers dreadfully with bites that turn septic has started to use this method as soon as she discovers a bite and it stops all itching and further complications
-
Having always been an attractive snack to mozzies I am definitely going to try this. If it works - brilliant. If it doesn't, no harm done.
Thanks for the tip. :)

How simple is this after all the concoctions we've tried! It must be the pressure of the spoon bowl. I assume it'll work by heating it in the sun too (if on a long trek). Good to know. (Now I'll have to add a spoon to all the other 'stuff' in my bag!) ;)

Hope you don't get bitten in Calis on a Sunday, the waters generally turned off for hours. ;) :)
-
Just asked Chris how she does it. She dunks the teaspoon in boiling water, allows it to cool for a second and then carefully applies the. spoon to bite area at the hottest temperature she can stand but obviously without causing a burn, apply a slight pressure and repeat. We think the heat kills the Bactria that multiplies in the bite area.
Over the years, she has tried everything, this method really works.

The method iv'e used for some years is,once you are aware of the bite, pinch it whilst counting to ten,why this works I don't know but apart from the occasional bruise from over pinching the itching and swelling stops. If you get a bite where you can't reach you soon find out who your friends are!!
-
Ask Scunner George! Apparently he gets bitten in in a very hard to reach part of the body! ;)
-
Is that when he finds out who is real friend is ?
-
stops all itching and further complications
Careful George, she may use this on you !!

Two of my friends are staying with us and one of them has been bitten all over. She has had a really bad reaction and got anti histamines and cream from the chemist in Fethiye ( one of her eyes was closed and really swollen). Tonight I have tried this remedy on two new bites so will report back tomorrow.

This year I'll be packing a spoon, with a very long handle.

;D ;D ;D !!

Marrgie the other thing for your friend to try tho I think this is meant to be applied as soon as you can once bitten, a teabag that has been used and whilst still warm apply to the bite, it may offer her some relief hope it gets better soon...mozzies are the bane of life whilst in Calis total nightmare last summer 8)

Thanks Karen, tried the spoon remedy on my friend and myself last night. Yippee, seems to have worked, no swelling this morning. Will try the teabag too - anything that gives relief is worth trying.
-
Spooning and teabagging.
Hmmm.
-
Toothpaste works too.
-
On the mozzies. ???
-
Toothpaste works too.
It doesn't !
-
Ooh that is interesting to hear Marggie re the spoon I too shall be "spooning" when next over as I just know I will be bitten!!
-
Amazed this week to have been bitten only twice, given I am usually top of the mozzies' list of favourite snacks wherever we go. ;D
On both occasions I tried the hot spoon technique - and it works brilliantly.
Instantly stopped the itching and no swelling.
Fantastically useful tip, thank you!
