Hi Doll
It is related with weigth , engine volume and age of the car.It seems your car is heavy and has a big engine.
Tax for normal weigths and engine volumes are 200-350 YTL which is still expensive.

Public transport is so good  Dolmus..Coach..etc and it is so relatively cheap, is it worth the expense of owning a car.? Several weeks car rental would be more economical perhaps. Admitedly living in Fethiye itself makes a car less important and lots of walking makes me less guilty about the number of Efes consumed

On the subject of car tax I run two classics as well as a "cooking car" does anyone know if, (a) I would be allowed to import them into Turkey, They are both 30 plus years old,(b} If it is permitted are there any concessions on road tax as in the UK

the answer is no...you can bring them in as a tourist for 6 months, then you have to get them out, consessions on road tax ..you are wishfull thinking, i think you will have to do your cooking somewhere else, also if you get a residency permit you are no longer classed as a tourist therefore you do not enjoy thier consesions,  means car out as happened to a friend of mine.laws change though and i may be wrong! check out www.fethiyetimes.com they have info on the matter.

Wanted to bring my motorbike over but same rules as for cars, six months only, we questioned everyone possible including the consulates even online to bike clubs in Turkey all had the same answer NO.

Actually you can bring a car into Turkey and KEEP IT HERE, but you have to be receiving a State Pension from England and have the little pink card to prove it.  Sounds silly I know but I have friends who have actually done this.

Yes you do.

quote:
The longest it can stay here is 6 months and no longer. After that you have to take it back out of the country and wont be allowed back in for another 6 months. You should take this into consideration very carefully unless you qualify for a blue plate you have no way around this.
To qualify for a blue plate you must have one of the following:
work permit
student permit
investigation permit
retirement permit
Not forgetting if you do qualify for this you will have to pay a whooping Turing deposit. give you an idea my 1996 Fiat Brava cost me 3,000 euros which I get back when I take the car out of the country.

The deposit only works if you keep your car here using the blue plate scheme

Tnx loz...Thought that would be the answer. I am more and more convinced that at least in Fethiye it is just not worth owning a car. Rental on a short term "need a car" basis would seem to be the best financial proposition. :)
