I have actualy never heard of this or recall seeing it on a menu. Interesting.

It's done in a clay pot Toky and closed like a pressure cooker so it cooks in steam. Usually in a well in the floor or  oven. Nearest would be güveç. Meat cooks more tender. Not seen in Çaliş  pompeylee.

Vojo's used to do them.   The only place I know of now is the Kings Garden in Fethiye.  If you ring them they  will pick up an drop back for free.

Is it not Desti rather than testi?  That's how I know it. Clay pot where they break off the sealed neck of the pot and serve? Yummy rich casserole.  :P I had that in Hisaronu but not in Calis.

There are 2/3 places that do them along Calis prom, they used to have a clay pot outside restaurants but these days they are advertised on a board outside. I think Sunset restaurant at the front of Gunes Hotel have it and maybe Cafe Soul.

Some places just put the precooked food into the pot cover the top with cooking foil, into the oven for a few minutes and then offer it as testi, don't know where you can get the genuine slow cooked product

If it is the authentic slow cooked version I suspect you have to order in advance.

I have a feeling that ALL the ones in Calis are as GW describes. I had one in VoJo's a few years back and it was not good.
I would love to find the genuine article somewhere.

I can confirm the ones in the Kings Garden are always very tender.  I did have one in the Sardunya in Calis and I could have soled and heeled  my shoes with the lamb it was so tough..

One of the Sekuls do them as a pre-order with 24 hrs notice. Can't remember which one though!

Anne's bar along the front plus 2 or 3 others advertise that they do them.If you ask me they are not cooked in the clay pots but rather added to them when presented to you at the table.May be Fethiye you would find a proper one cooked in the clay pot in a fire/oven.

Maybe he's just getting to grips with the concept and etiquette of the forum.
Title: Re: Best Testi

How would you know that KKOB? On the basis of posting pictures of his food????????? Now that would be really shallow if someone made a decision based on that. While the posts may  have been excessive on the forum, I doubt sensibly minded folks would make that a reason for not going. Now good/bad reviews/personal experiences of the restaurant is a different matter and a much beter way to decide whether or not to visit the place.

The Kerim is one of our favourite places to sit and have a coffee/drink and people watch.   ;)   We don't normally eat there but lot's of people do so it must have something going for it.  The guys there are really nice and friendly and not at all pushy when you are there. To be honest I'm a bit surprised by all the postings they've done over the last few days, but it won't stop us going back when we're next in Calis.

Maybe they're just desperate for business in these uncertain times and relying on the loyal people of this forum (ex and new customers) to bring business to them.

Perhaps I shouldn't have used the term "huge number" in my post. However, I'd say he's lost several potential clients by his pushiness. I for for one won't be going there and I certainly won't be recommending it to family or friends.

Each to their own.  :)

Exactly KKOB!   ;)  But perhaps people should also just try it out for themselves before making a decision based on a few posts on here. If you don't like it, don't go back. Easy    :)

I'm sure it's a lovely place and a favourite for some, but to be honest they were asked nicely more than once to stop promoting themselves and totally ignored it. So they knew exactly what they were doing? If all the restaurants start to do this the forum would become full of restaurants' posts trying to outdo each other. On the other hand, from their point of view times are tough now and I suppose once their photos have been posted and seen, job done.
Title: Re: Best Testi
Post by: marina on July 22, 2016, 11:39:28 AM
Yes, agree with all that Lotty. It would be bit of a nightmare if all the restaurants did the same on here and it may well have put some people off going, but then how many will read the posts and promptly forget about them anyway   :D

Exactly.  It'd be a free for all and ultimately NO restaurants would be allowed to post.

Times are hard for businesses in touristic areas and fair play to them for trying new places to promote their business.  However, they were asked nicely to refrain from flooding the forum with images and as a result their other posting have been deleted (by Keith).  They haven't been banned and are more than welcome to CONTRIBUTE to CBF in the future.

We went with neighbours (to watch the footie) who use the place and although the staff were very nice. I hated the way they allowed people to smoke in there.  It spoilt the night as the table behind us had 5 men all smoking.
We would not go back on that single basis

Is there not a section for restaurants and bars to post there wares & prices/how to get there etc so that we can look at pictures of food be made aware of entertainment if we wanted to know? Would stop the hijacking of posts.

Thanks everyone for their reply to our testi. But once you should try it, the aim of the picture is the awareness of the foods in our restaurant. For helping our dear costumers. Not for advertising certainly. Because we have already regular lovely guests. And we are open and same approach to everyone who is sitting our chairs  :)

We know some people in this forum management have a benefits from some places. And they dont allow the other places interests.

All thanks for replies. Love you and see you in our restaurant  :)

Enjoy your meal!!!  :-*

Really?  That's like saying the cheques in the post and honest dear, I won't...   :)

We know some people in this forum management have a benefits from some places. And they dont allow the other places interests.

Nonsense.  How have you managed to post here then?  You're coming across as a rather jealous individual, maybe you should look and learn from the businesses that do post on here.

Anyway, consider your account "under review".  I've locked it and Keith can do as he sees fit.

Assuming you mean me, I wish that were true! I can honestly say I get more drinks or perks on the house during a week in Spain that I have never been to before than I ever had in Calis!

What a crock. Back to reality please...

There are very few places in Calis that don't allow smoking Jacqui - even your favourite place, George's, allows people to smoke - unless that has changed since the refurb?  I understand you find it unpleasant to say the least, but if you refused to go somewhere because they allowed it you would surely be very limited for choice?  It seems a bit unfair to single Kerim out as a place never to return to when there must be so many more to avoid on that single basis.

Yes, I agree their first posts have been rather clumsy but they are really nice guys and the food is good.   They always seem so pleasant and friendly with everyone whether its 9am or midnight so don't write the place off without trying it - give them a break eh?

Just for your info I have had discussions during my visit and they understand the rules of CBF now and I have removed all bans.

George understands where their staff (not him) overdid it, and hopefully they will be informative and compliant members.    :)
